205 GTi 3rd and 4th are perfect for 1/4 mile sprints in that setup, but otherwise I can\'t see the problem with the standard ratios. If you drop off the power in any gear in a valver when pressing on, you\'re either wimping out of revving it or theres something wrong with it!

A lot of road rally drivers using Peugeots have close ratio boxes for 1/2/3/4, then the longest they can get for fifth, so they can keep wear and tear (and noise) down on transfer sections. I've often wondered about sticking a taller fifth in the BX for motorways.

No idea! The attraction of the fifth gear mod is you don't even need to take the gearbox out - it's done via the steel cover on the end.

yes, but it's a bit of a faff, and the overall gearing is no real improvement.Roverman wrote:Can you fit the 6 speeder out of a GTi-6?
Much easier to swop the 5th gear set.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

As the Doc said above, it is possible but note that the end of the box would clash when full lock was on, as you also get when fitted to a Mi16 converted Peugeot 205.
Mike E has a longer 5th gear on his 16V, from a diesel.
Having taken the car in the ebay add for a test drive very early this year when the previous owner in Sheffield was selling the car, it is a quick one but a bit rough and rotten underneath. Would be a good project car but wants some time and money spending on it.
