Good news for BX owners?

We all live and learn, I had a lovely P5B a few years ago which I let go for fair money, its worth twice that now

My dad sold a lovely ds23 injection for a few hundred quid

Even as a kid i was well pissed off & now i'm gutted that he still doesnt have it, i really loved that car. I did check the reg a few years back & it was scrapped pretty much as soon as it was sold. Mind you, the twat that bought it couldnt even get it out of our drive without crashing into our bloody fence, i was ready to lynch him even though it wasn't our car anymore

A real shame, but hindsight is a wonderful thing eh.....

My insurance has my 1991 BX19TZS valued at $2275, My 1990 19TRS valued at $2175

All I know is that if I have a cra written off it is worth more than I paid for BUT!!! the loss of either of them would be beyond contemplation as to replacement value.

some scrote scratched the door paintwork on our BX - insurance company told me the car would be a write off if i claimed!!

Eh, they don't even know how much the repair is going to cost? I'd get go to the Financial Ombudsman Service & make a complaint about them. Out of interest, who is this crap insurer?

Actually I can believe that given the cost of getting a panel resprayed.

A decent bodyshop should charge about £100 a panel if its just slight repair and paint so as mulley says I doubt it!

Most 'insurance approved' bodyshops would probably insist on changing the panel... I know someone who had a slight scrape on a door, and and the cost of the repair was about £40 shy of the £1000 excess. They just take the piss, and is just one of the reasons your insurance premiums are all bloated and still increasing. Depends who you are with, and how hard you push them, but you shouldn't get the car written off, especially if it is in good nick.

Quite agree, bodyshops do "up" the repair costs when they can, the days of re-shaping the panels is long gone.

My friend had a slight tap in her MX5 in the snow, slight ding on the wing and the bumper took a tap but didnt do much as its plastic. She took it to a local bodyshop and they costed for a new wing, bumper, various bits of trim and it was £1200! so shes left it as its hardly noticeable.

We had thought it would have been a couple of hundred quid to reshape the wing and paint the bumper etc. Guess not!

I gently "tapped" my BX against a parked Mercedes A class in the ice last winter. I had to make a claim to get the Merc fixed, and before he'd even taken any details the chap at Esure said, "No matter what the damage is, we'll be writing yours off due to the age of the vehicle."

"Oh no you won't," says I, "I've already fixed it - I only broke the indicator lens on mine, and I had a spare one in the shed."
