Drivers Door Removal
Need to fit the new drivers door to the GT next, any pointers?
Swapping over the fittings, glass etc is no problem, but removing the door pins maybe?
Do I knock them or pull them out! Thanks!
Tim.

Give them a good soaking in WD40 daily until you're ready to get them out, they're usually damned tight, the top one needs to be knocked downwards and access is not easy, if you try to knock it up you'll find it butts up against the door edge before it's clear.
I've got a hinge pin removal tool but they're rarely man enough to do the job if the pin has welded itself in or has a wear lip on it.

you could always splash out and buy one of these Tim

If you try hammer and punch you'll probably find you end up expanding the hinge pin which makes it more even difficult to remove. Tried it on the Visa and had to go and buy a proper tool. Hinge pin remover ftw!

Erm, Tim are you 'AV-IN a LAUGH' you've seen it done with your own eyes how simple it was ?Roverman wrote:Need to fit the new drivers door to the GT next, any pointers?

It's not even 12 months since I changed the drivers door over on your White TZi which you even helped by holding the old door whilst I removed the door pins and then held the donor door whilst I did the trial fit, because I had to grind/file some metal of the top of one the hinges to get the door to fit correctly IYCR ?
Also if you recall you still have my door pin remover (which I left in the car and has not been returned to me) !
:- The door pin remover !
Which I use is actually the hinge from a scrapped BX hatchback as it's made from hardened steel and has a nice decent size head on it to whack the door pins out and with it having the domed head it locates nicely positioned on the 'Roll-pin' and it just slightly smaller in diameter than the holes in the door hinges so it doesn't actually get stuck !
A superb simple BX part which I've used many times on BX's and XM door removal/replacements .
I hope this may be of use to others too !
So when you finished the job on this one Tim, could I have my TOOL back please !

No worries Tim, I think I have another one, if not you could take the hinge-pin off that old/scruffy Beige Mk1 BX hatch-back that you haveRoverman wrote:....................
