Cheap Car Insurance
Forgot to mention when I insured the DTR and the TZD, I rang round for quotes as per, I spoke to Footman James who said both times that I didnt need to set up a new seperate policy for as I could add them on to my existing agreement for the TZi as they were basically the same car, value and insurance bracket.
Cost: £20 admin fee.
Ive checked the paperwork, its correct and the level of cover is fully comp etc.
Makes running more than one BX a bit more affordable.
All we need now is the free road tax for cars over a certain age!.

Wow, that sounds too good to be true, suppose all 3 cars were damaged / written off in one go (garage collapses or similar) would all 3 be insured?

Highly unlikely as they are all stored in seperate garages/driveway.
But in anser to your question, yes they would, its the same a fleet/trader policy in that respect.

£120 for the TZI, and about £105 for the GT. Excludes breakdown though. Limited mileage classic policy, etc etc.Way2go wrote:How much does this policy cost for you Tim?
Also how would you grade your geographical area for insurance cost, high, medium or low?
I live in a quite "good" area when it comes to Insurance, small village, away from a big city, plus ive been driving for 20 years etc etc

They are all on classic policies yes, although the TZD isnt 20 years old yet....albeit 19 years and 10 months!
The do recognise the BXC too so that will count in your favour when they ask if you are a member of a car club.
The best way to do it is to give them a call, but probably only going to be of some use to those lunatics that have more than one BX (or 5 like me )

FJ and others have long had classic fleet policies. All of my cars are currently on a classic policy with Peter D James. That's four cars, unlimited mileage, agreed value and about £150 when I took the policy out in December. There is no NCD build up though, which hits you hard if in a moment of weakness you decide you want a modern again! This is why none of my cars are younger than 21 years old...

Yeah, one of the problems with FJ is despite that list, they're massively inconsistent. None of my cars are insured as garaged, and have never been. I never know which one will be in there, so they're down as 'driveway.'
They wouldn't insure my 21 year old Saab due to age, but they had no problems with my 20 year old BX TGD! I do have a claim in the last three years and they are also one of the few people who provide business cover!
I moved to Peter D James (the same James) because they have a strict 20 year policy and they're consistent with that. They don't provide business cover, but then it turns out I don't actually cover business mileage any more.

Several cars on one policy with just a £20 admin fee; is this just the case if it is a single name policy, if there was a second driver (i.e. the wife)would it not apply as more than one car could be getting driven at the same time doubling the risk?

I have FOUR drivers on my policy, one of which is our Mr Chidlow!Defender110 wrote:Several cars on one policy with just a £20 admin fee; is this just the case if it is a single name policy, if there was a second driver (i.e. the wife)would it not apply as more than one car could be getting driven at the same time doubling the risk?
As long as the drivers are a sensible age with a full UK licence then they normally dont charge anymore.
One of my cars is down as parked on the drive and they didnt charge anymore.

Yup. I've got my wife as a named driver, and added my mate Matt when we did the BXagon.
The reason for such cheapness? The vast majority of classics do barely any mileage at all. Very few folk (like me) do more than 1000 miles a year in classics. I however get the most out of my 'unlimited mileage' and in some years, even the 2CV has managed 15,000 miles.
