I also checked the documentation when the TXD had its done when I got the car and it says 45k as well.
Does this mean the Diesel is less riskier to belt snap?
On a side note several years ago the cambelt went on our korean vauxhall astra copy. And we had a lucky escape from damge! The one time that stopping for a Burger King actually was worthwhile. Had I not been reversing into a park bay I would have been doing 100kph when it snapped.

I also have a vague recollection from years ago that the increased compression rate increases inertia in the bottom half of the engine making the top half easier to turn (once in motion)... Not sure how acurate that bit is though, never gave it much thought!

Is 2004 when the belt was changed a little out of touch ?
Although certain engines are inherently good or bad at surviving belt failure, it is a bit of a lottery. I've known one engine bend every valve at tickover, another destroy itself on startup, yet another run perfectly fine with a new belt after the old one snapped at 40mph.
Change it ASAP! An ex boss had the cambelt go on his Alpha after 30,000 miles, but 8 years service. It cost over a grand to fix, and the car was almost scrapped because of it.

Brilliant garage giving out the wrong info. I presume all XUD engines regardless of which car they were fitted to & when the car was in production is still 48k or 5yrs? I presume the DW8 engines & all the other slight variants are 72k?

Where an iffy belt can become an issue is the emission part of the MOT test, which involves ragging the engine until the limiter cuts in. That stresses the belt. Any belt older than five years I would change ASAP to be honest.
