Actually it pulls VERY well and the engine seems to run very sweet.Mike E (uk) wrote:I know what you mean.
But if you only have a few hp to start with, you have no spare so its important to have them all.
When I had a 1971 998cc Mini, every single hp was needed to get up the hills.
Just regapping the spark plugs would give a noticeable improvement.

I will almost certainly be up for a rolling road session... I've got more than one car I'd like to have on a rolling road.

With a Dyane, I can get a couple of extra mph just by polishing it!When I had a 1971 998cc Mini, every single hp was needed to get up the hills.

Perhaps you've missed the point of a rolling road session then? The point isn't to have a boy racer meet up and push your cars for a chance to claim the 'who's got the biggest willy' competition, the whole exercise is to find out how well your car is performing!Roverman wrote:Lol I wouldnt be using the TZD on a rolling road, think it would be a waste of time on a 1.9D!
I did a rolling road in the 19rd many years ago, and of all the chavved up boy racer pimp mobiles that where there, my 20 year old diesel had actually lost the least horses and was the closest to the manufacturers output figure.
This told me a) the engine was in pretty fine fettle, b) the maintenance i'd been giving it was probably about right and c) it gave me a little print out that gave me a much better idea when to change out of 4th for max performance.
These you tube video's are all muppets trying to push there engines to prove the potency of there man hood, which isn't what a rolling road is for!
Kitch, i'll likely be interested but it will be a little dependant on when and fitting it in with work (no surprise there then!). Question time, what sort of RR is it? Water braked, eddy current braked? I assume its roller and not belt? Not that this makes any difference just pure interest.

It's eddy current, twin-rollers (the idle rollers have a trigger wheel to measure wheel slip against the braked side).
We also have a fan, which if you don't chock up on the ground will walk off across the workshop.
Like I say, with dates I'm very flexible (ahem!). If people want to make suggestions as to when they're free, be all means go for it. If you'd rather I list a few potential dates which could be used, and then everyone decides from that I could do this too.

It would be nice to make a day of it and have a few people turn up, so as we can look at each others cars and how they are performing etc. Perhaps to get people committed it would be better to list dates, and if people can't make those then have a vote on when? Just a suggestion, what does everybody else think?
Being close, i'm also fairly flexible, but it would have to be July, as long as it isn't the 20th.

I'll run some dates through the number cruncher and see what comes up. Might be better to hang on until September anyway - gives everyone a chance to get motors on the road etc, and it'll be a bit cooler. If it's 30degrees or something in the workshop, ragging the arse off a car on the rollers isn't the ideal thing to do. The cooling fan has perimiters I'd rather not explore

Re: Rolling Road Day
Righto - potential dates:
August 18th or 19th (sat or sun)
August 25th or 26th
September 1st or 2nd
September 9th or 10th
I'm actually on holiday in September, but I think it's later in the month. These dates should be ok, it's normally hottest around June/July round here and it's always nicer when the sun is shining, although it's indoors and not weather dependant.

Re: Rolling Road Day
September works better for me personally, but August shouldn't be a vast problem.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Given those dates, September is better for me also! When in september isn't an issue though.

Re: Rolling Road Day
25/26 Aug is the Bank Holiday weekend, so possibly best avoided as so many of the ever-over-optimistic Great British Public will be on the roads. Otherwise they all look OK to me at the moment.

Re: Rolling Road Day
18th 19th of august is the ICCCCCCR so thats a no go. I'm then away for a few weeks, so mid Sept sounds good.

That's the Individual Citroen Car Club Rally? - you'll be everso lonely, we're all there the weekend/few day previous!Vanny wrote:18th 19th of august is the ICCCCCCR so thats a no go.
