Seems to get pretty universal approval. And so it should. An all time great.

Why doesn't someone buy that bloody car - it's a peach!

^Ain't necessarily so is it?
I rated it a ten because . . . it's a ten.

Bloody annoying that people who don't know better insist that the suspension is a nightmare. It just isn't! Oh well. Scares most folks away and leaves bargains for us!

Having more-or-less decided that I'd quite like a GTI for my second BX, why have all 52 (apparently)* of the remaining on-the-road ones been for sale in the last 3 days* when I can't afford and have no space for another car
Hope this one finds a good long-term home and doesn't just get bought as a cheap thrash-around-in-it-til-the-MOT-runs-out-throw-it-away car.

Re: BX GTi, Shed of the week!
Hello! My partner and I bought this lovely 1991 GTI! Rest assured, it will be looked after...it will also be used, as it should. I have never even driven a Citroen before though I have always admired them. This one is in really brilliant condition. The only bad bit is a rust spot appearing on the upper left corner of the windscreen but we will have that seen to very soon. Cold starting is not so good, the injection does not seem to keep the revs up, tends to stall easily when cold. Any ideas? Also, it appears to have the LE Jetronic system when it should have Motronic, according to the Haynes manual. Looking forward to meeting up with other enthusiasts at some point. We live in the Maidstone, Kent area. Regards, Wynand

Re: BX GTi, Shed of the week!
Welcome - glad you like the car and are getting any issues sorted ASAP - Windscreen frame rust can get complicated to fix if left too long.
Not an expert on GTi's but seem to remember that uneven tick over was a common problem with this model. Normally it wasn't an issue when on the move, but would at least contribute to your cold running issues.

Re: BX GTi, Shed of the week!
Hi there, and welcome. First the early (Phase 1 if you like) GTis had Jetronic. Motronic came in 1990 with the facelift (Phase 2) cars. I notice your car is on the cusp, so to speak as it has the Ph. 2 rear lights for instance.
Jetronic is - in my experience - a better performer, more economical but a little more 'flakey'... If you have a problem with cold starting and idling (until warmed up?) there are a lot of helpful (experienced) members far more qualified than me to give technical details. Condition of plugs, leads, fuel filter - even air filter can affect the running. You might want to check there are no air leaks at the inlet end (the engine side of the silver box - which is the AFM. Then a bad earth can cause problems too. But I should wait and someone else will come along with slightly more precise advice I'm sure.

A lovely car that, welcome! A quick note, get some tiewraps round those wheeltrims, they are totally unavailable new and have a tendency to ping off at speed. They are the correct ones too so that in itself is rare!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Re: BX GTi, Shed of the week!
Thanks for the warm welcome! Also for the explanation re the fuel injection...hehe, is it a French thing, incorporating some new elements with the old??
It already has cable ties on, I would really like to obtain the correct mags for the car but am pleased it has the period trims on. I have a very good mechanic who is well versed in the cars as he had a BX too, in fact, he is looking for one himself! A proper old school mechanic, who specialises in classics, can make parts too. Will be happy to pass his details on.
Thanks for the advice on the idling, will look into it.

Re: BX GTi, Shed of the week!
Welcome to the world of BX's. Lovely looking car. Re the uneven idling. First thing to check is the idle control valve, situated at the front of the engine bay, just in front of the radiator. These have a tendency to play up. Try disconnecting it and cleaning the connectors with brake cleaner, if no improvement your local motor factors should be able to supply one. Happy bx'ing.

Re: BX GTi, Shed of the week!
No worries. A fresh ignition coil can do wonders for the smooth running as well. Genuine Valeo ones can be bought for around £15 off eBay. My 16 valve was running rough around 2000 rpm and a new ignition coil transformed it. Intermotor are the better of OEM parts if you're motor factor can supply them. If they ask your car has a Ducellier ignition system. All the best. Mark.
