faulty supsension pump????? and if so has anyone got a spare
ok, i had a problem with my supension not going up at all when starting. today me and my pal finally got around to trying to fix it. the outcome we think is its not the belt its looks good. also the small fluid leak was down to the hose that goes into the suspension pump being spilt. which sort of tells me the octopus is good. so a new hose will be going on.
but, we still have to fix the suspension. so we think its the pump at the back to the right of the engine.
can anyone of much more knowledge confirm this is the case and if so has anyone got a spare pump hanging around that i could buy please!!!
many thanks bx ers!

Depending on how bad the split is, and how low the fluid level got, it may just be that the system needs bleeding - you'll have to do that anyway after changing the pipe so I'd give that a try first.

ok mate yeah i'll try that defineately 1st. is it easy to bleed the system mate?citsncycles wrote:Depending on how bad the split is, and how low the fluid level got, it may just be that the system needs bleeding - you'll have to do that anyway after changing the pipe so I'd give that a try first.

The bleed screw is on the pressure regulator (by the accumulator), although the ease of bleeding seems to be a lottery. Some seem to bleed through with no problem. Mine usually needs the steering turned from lock to lock a few times before it pressurises. I've known some need to be primed by filling the pipe to the pump with a funnel, and others take quarter of an hour or more to lift the first time.

Firstly look in your lhm reservior the round green tank inside the engine bay, check lhm level, if it drops too low your pump will not pick up fluid, if this is the case you have a leak somewhere (no surprise there), even small leaks over a short period of time will empty the reservoir, if poss get the car on a lift and have a good check of all the pipework, the old steel pipes start to let go after 20 odd years, seals start to harden and rubber pipes will more than likely be perished(return pipes) i would think this more likely the case, you can have your hyd pump refurbished by specialists but as i found out on my tzdt the extra pressure from the new pump caused even more leaks. Suspect areas to check for leaks, strut return pipes, octopus, fdv, steering rack, rear suspension struts, height correctors, are just a few.

alright mate. there dont seem to be any leaks at all. my mate (top quality volvo engineer) is convinced its the pump.rutter123 wrote:Firstly look in your lhm reservior the round green tank inside the engine bay, check lhm level, if it drops too low your pump will not pick up fluid, if this is the case you have a leak somewhere (no surprise there), even small leaks over a short period of time will empty the reservoir, if poss get the car on a lift and have a good check of all the pipework, the old steel pipes start to let go after 20 odd years, seals start to harden and rubber pipes will more than likely be perished(return pipes) i would think this more likely the case, you can have your hyd pump refurbished by specialists but as i found out on my tzdt the extra pressure from the new pump caused even more leaks. the fluid levels are good and it just all of a sudden stopped working one day.

Re: faulty supsension pump????? and if so has anyone got a s
I have NEVER heard of a LHM pump failing completely unless it's a catastrophic failure with high pressure LHM squirting everywhere, and very obvious because the casing has broken!
They usually get more sluggish over time, granted, but even tired ones will eventually be able to provide enough pressure for the suspension to raise, especially if the engine revs are raised a bit to coax it along.
I think the fault lies in the pressure regulator, flow diverter, or from air in the system.
NB the bleed screw people are referring to can easily be located by the fact that it's the only 12mm bolt on the pressure regulator. Do not unscrew it more than half a turn.

I'm breaking a BX19RD, so I have one from a diesel engine up for grabs.rutter123 wrote:Petrol or diesel, different pumps.
