Depends if you know what you're doing or not.

Re: LHM CHANGE
Difficult to answer really, but it's not a long job. If you leave an hour free you shouldn't go wrong but in reality, even if you're washing out the filters etc it's more likely to be half that. But sometimes they can be (for me at least!) stubborn to prime.

Re: LHM CHANGE
Having done mine recently, be VERY careful when emptying the old LHM out of the tank as the rim is razonr sharp, I now have a nice scar on my right hand to proove!

Re: LHM CHANGE
Where's the pressure regulator on a valver? It pays to plan how you'll access it once the car has squatted down on the ground...
Re: LHM CHANGE
Changing the fluid in the reservoir is the easy bit. If you really want to get all the old fluid out, the brakes need bleeding until new fluid flushes through. Although the BX must be one of the easiest cars to do that with, as a piece of wood jammed on the pedal maintaining pressure, replaces a second person on a conventional system.....
That, plus a few 'Citrobics' should do the trick. Nominally should be done every 35k, worth it too IMHO.

Re: LHM CHANGE
I doubt they do, most mechanics run a mile at the sight of a bx, be very wary of have a go heroes working on your hydraulics, the bx system is not complicated but needs to be treated with respect you need to know whats what and how it works, or it could be no brakes no steering, no car.

Re: LHM CHANGE
A full lhm change takes hours, give yourself a whole day tbh, you have to take all the wheels off, bleed the brakes whilst trying not to sheer off the bleed nipples, take the lhm tank out, clean out all of the shit inside it, clean the filters, fill up, prime the basteward pump which may take ages as well to pump up. Mick can testify to how long i spent doing his car. It's well worth the effort though, the car always feels a lot nicer to drive after doing the full lhm change

regards malcolm,
steering's heavy now I only took the car in to fit the back exhaust
when I got home there was a judder took it back they heated the
exhaust to bend it did not judder then when I got home there
was a load of fluid leaking shot straight back to garage next day
they said a pipe was corroded just passed its mot 4 weeks ago
the pipe that was leaking runs across the back axle.
only went in for the back exhaust.
Re: LHM CHANGE
Sounds like the main front to back HP Suspension Pipe that's developed a leak. In order to fit this it is usually necessary to hinge the rear subframe down. There is a school of thought amongst some that all front to back pipes should be replaced at this point as the rest can fail soon once disturbed. You may get away with the one though so long as they are the plastic coated style of pipe.
I believe oe steel pipes are still available from the stealer at reasonable cost or you can elect to go for aftermarket cupronickel pipes.

Re: LHM CHANGE
Classic place for them to leak ime afraid. A fairly big job too, but it depends on how mechanically minded you are. A complete set of cupro-nickel pipes from Pliedes to re pipe a BX costs around 160 quid, well, thats what i paid recently but that was to do everything including the brake pipes. Also, if you have ABS you will need one pipe of a larger diameter. A garage that knows Citroens can do it for you for a price but it wont be cheap ime afraid. Many a BX has been scrapped because of this. Not a simple fix ime afraid but once done, should last the rest of the life of the motor. Good luck.
