faded parcel shelf
Hello all,
The parcel shelf on my bx is very faded due to the amount of sunshine here (you can't say that in the UK ) My shelf should be mid grey colour but its faded to a not so nice lilac colour!
Any ideas on how to change the colour without spending a fortune?
I have been told to spray it with grey primer but I'm not convinced.
All ideas greatly received.
Thanks guys

Re: faded parcel shelf
Seen it done on the TV bud, but that was black. Cant see why you coudnt spray it grey but not sure primer would be the best. Would it stick to the materiel properly? Perhaps a matt gloss would be better or one thats suitable for plastics. Can you get hold of a spare one and experiment, dosnt have to be for a BX, any old one from a scrap car.

Re: faded parcel shelf
Lilac? Unique. Paint the car to match lol
At the end of the day, it's not that important. Put a black - or grey - blanket on the shelf. Nobody's gonna worry. BUT if it's any consolation painting it doesn't work... (There was a time I worried about such things )

Or you could set the parcel shelf on fire, just like Philip did.

Re: faded parcel shelf
Maybe try Dylon - a fabric dye. But beware the colour on the top may not be the colour you get!. Wonder how I know that....

Re: faded parcel shelf
Thanks for the replies.
The blanket the sheet over the top is out of the question, err and burning it too LOL.
I'm going to paint it and I will let you know the results.
I have just painted the carpet trim in the boot where the wheel brace lives and it looks fantastic. So I will pluck up th courage to do the shelf. I just need to find the nearest shade of grey.....Will ask the wife on 50 shades of grey LOL
Will keep you posted
Got loads of photos to upload. Will do it soon, promise.

Re: faded parcel shelf
I can confirm that after using 4 aerosols of mid grey paint that my parcel shelf looks 100% better. Much better than the lilac colour.
I would put photos on here BUT I have no idea how to, even after looking at the advice on how to put photos on here in still none the wiser! Is it just me that is struggling?

Re: faded parcel shelf
Yes Andy you was right. By the way I DID NOT use primer. I used a grey paint from the DIY store.

Re: faded parcel shelf
One question about parcel shelves - are they all the same? Since original shelf on my car had speaker holes, I got one off 1993 Pallas with split rear seat and it seems that it doesn't fit perfectly on my car that has regular rear seat.
