Speedline wheel bolts
I'm going to fit a set of speedlines to my tgd estate. I have a set of bolts with a flat seating but they measure 55mm from washer to the end of the thread. Does anyone know if this is too long? They protrude about 28mm out the back of the speedlines.
I guess I'll find out when I go to fit them, but it would be nice to know beforehand so I can get replacements or cut down what I've got.
Any experience appreciated! Thanks

Re: Speedline wheel bolts
The speedlines (from a pug 205) i have on my tzd turbo have bolts with an angled shank seating, not sure flat seats are the correct bolts to use. If your bolts are too long they may foul the hub carriers or if they too short you could end up loosing a wheel or worse.

Re: Speedline wheel bolts
The proper BX speedlines require the flat seat.
The pug ones are different.
The bolt length sounds about right, but just put one in and tighten it up and carefully try to rotate it. The answer will reveal itself.

I have zero patience for your tedium.

You need at least 6 turns on the bolt to be safe.

Re: Speedline wheel bolts
I would say 10. The bolt should be as deep in the thread as it is wide. BX bolt is M12x1.25, which makes 10 turns 12.5mm. I had bolts in my ZX (sorry for the curse word, I sold it 10 years ago) that went 5.5 turns and that really felt unsafe, but the wheels did stay on (under) the car always .Kitch wrote:You need at least 6 turns on the bolt to be safe.

Thanks, I'll let you know if I need them. Much appreciated!JayW wrote:If you do get stuck, i have one last set of original speedline bolts left I can sell.
The day has run away with me so I'll attempt the wheel swap tomorrow, weather permitting! The bolts I have will wind in almost 30mm, so definitely ok from a strength point of view. I'll just have to check they are not too long and dont foul anything!

Re: Speedline wheel bolts
Yes please! Turns out the bolts I have won't fit through the wheels properly! Where the shaft tapers out just before the seating, it makes them too wide to fit all the way through the bolt holes on the wheels!!! I'm glad I checked before I got my tyres swapped over!JayW wrote:If you do get stuck, i have one last set of original speedline bolts left I can sell.
I'll send you a PM. Many thanks
