Good !, It's always worrying for fear you might put the wrong kind of oil in there. At £3 a litre it's hard to see how you could get it much cheaper, unless you get of the 20 litre drums from GSF which would bring it down to about £2.50 a litre.Way2go wrote:Yes, started to use this when I was leaking from the Octopus & continued using it It seems no different to other LHM.

hi there,
if it says it is ok for use in citroen lhm+ cars then it sould be fine, almost anything will work in these systems. i have taken a bx to the scrappers before that had no fluid in so i filled it up with rain water and after 25mins it rose up ¨airlocked¨ and went great in the field!
though i dont recommend ever putting it into a car you will need again!

You have a collection of problems if you use fluids other than LHM. Amongst others they are:
Automatic transmission fluids - have 'Friction Modifiers' in them which presumably are something to make it less slippery for clutches etc. What are they - whatever they are they don't sound like lubricants - but the stuff works well in power steering systems.
Brake fluid - originally Citroen used vegetable (Castor?) oil in the system - but in the mid 60's changed to mineral - with a change in seals. Seals may deteriorate - and the stuff takes in water rather easily. What its lubrication properties etc are I don't know.
Engine oil - may not agree with seals - and is probably the wrong viscosity.
You will always find someone who has done something strange and got away with it. What you don't know is how well the car actually worked and rode and generally functioned - after all if you've been running the thing on old engine oil you're hardly going to tell your mates over a pint that its ride is terrible, it leaks like a sieve and the power steering doesn't work. More likely is that you'll use LHM and tell everyone you do something else!

Buttercup Bob in Australia has been using Vegetable oil in his DS for years with no adverse effects but i'm not sure I'd go down this route.
As for ATF, there are different types of ATF and non of them would do the hydraulics in a cit any favours!
Cheers

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...
