WANTED: Turbodiesel. Anything in good order considered!
WANTED: Turbodiesel. Anything in good order considered!
Hi all,
Thought I'd put a post up in here. I'm now going to be sorta looking for a decent BX turbodiesel. My ideal would be a TZD Turbo or Hurricane hatch; however, an estate or other trim levels will be considered. Must have a long-ish MOT and be running and fit for a long schlep down to the South of France in summer. Also would prefer below 140k miles. Picky? Me? Never!
If anyone has anything, or knows of anything, that might be interesting to me, please let me know. I'll be looking throughout the next few months for something interesting so I'm not desperate yet, but if the right car came along I'd probably go for it!
Cheers
Alex

Just thought I'd mention that I'm also keen on hearing about any XM turbodiesels (estate or hatch) or ZX Volcane turbodiesels which also meet the same criteria. If you know of anything, or you have something you might part with, give me a shout!
Oh, and by the way, Ken - Santa didn't bring me a BX this year after all.

XM turbo diesel??? Got plenty of time and money on your hands? Stick with a BX mate if you want to keep your sanity.
You need the patience of Ken to own an XM....
I think you'll struggle to find a decent TD as once you get one you wont want to let it go (as you already know!)
Anyway Mr Capri, wheres this article for me???

Yeah, that's why I'm so gutted that mine's currently shaped like a cube somewhere in the south of France!
Cheers for your advice about XM's mate... I know they're a bit of a handful but I'm hoping if I can find a sound one that's not got any electrical faults, I might just about cope! Although I shall bear what you've said in mind - a BX is obviously the preferred choice.
I'm so sorry about the article mate, I completely forgot. I'll get on it straight away for you!

I can only speak from the experience of 3 friends who either own or have owned XM's.ken newbold wrote:Don't believe it, had my XM 2 years now and the only thing I've had to do is fit a new LHM pump which was a bit tired when I got it.
Mind you, 2 years down the road it does have a few issues now which I will have to attend to before the end of Jan.
Friend 1: 3 litre SEi auto, 10 grand spent in 4 years! 2.5TD bought to sell, couple of grand spent to give it a good service and get the aircon working
Friend 2: 3 litre SEi auto, 6 monthly bill for about a grand a time
Friend 3: 3 litre V6 24v Exclusive, spent thousands on it fixing stupid things like aircon, electric window, cooling system etc etc.
I can see why they stomach the bills though, they are lovely.
Most that are left now fall quite comfortably into 2 categories now. Heap of shite and viable purchase. Just make sure you go for the right one.
In the meantime, get a BX. A GTi BX will do similar MPG to a 2.5TD XM.

Wouldn't disagree with you there Ian.
Two categories all right.
Friend 1, 3 litre auto. Bag of Shite.
Friend 2, 2 litre manual, clutch US and valve stem seals US.
Friend 3, 3 litre auto, gearbox US.
Me.
2.0 ltr Auto est. Fantastic car.
2.1 td saloon. HG bust.
2.1 td est. great car.
Having said that Friend 1 never pays more than £150 for anything, but my mate Shaune has a very desirable series 2 2.1 td hatch and it's truly awesome.

They think it's all over, it is now!
Cavmad - yeah, I noticed that one! I just wish the mileage was a little lower and that it wasn't so far away from me, else I'd be sorely tempted! Looks ideal otherwise!
Mind you, having said all that, if it goes cheap enough and you're not interested in it (as I know you're after a diesel estate), I might have a pop!
