Ah - opinion - isn't it a fine thing. If this car were local (and I had access to garage space) I'd at least try to look at it - but I've got no illusions about it being A1. Good BX bodyshells are getting harder to find, and that's the basis for a sustainable BX. If the bodyshell's reasonable, it doesn't have to keep an XU5 under the bonnet.
Didn't the GS die off in the UK because nobody could be bothered to save any? A local BX is nearly always worth a look.
Oh well - just give me that car and box of matches and I won't trouble anyone any more....

Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Don't get me wrong DLM, cosmetically my cars (esp the TD) are tatty/dirty but mechanically sound. Having a 'dirty shed' doesn't bother me in the slightest, infact I quite like my cars that way. Of course, and I think this was the initial point of your and Toms comments, a dirty car doesn't mean a cr@p car. But what we don't know, because it is not listed, is what the chassis and other rust prone areas are like. As you say, only from an inspection can that be ascertained. You made a rational breakdown of work to be done etc.
Whereas the initial posts erred on the pessimistic side, you quite rightly pointed out an alternative view point. But:
Citroen CX = binned.........Q.E.D.

I'm sure we've all bought a BX with a list to repairs, only to find that when to take it apart to repair the car, there is almost always more wrong with it than 1st suspected. Tom should know cos he's spent over a grand on a front end rebuild. A bargain it maybe at £40 to run for 6 months until the MOT expires, but as a keeper it's an unknown quantity.tom wrote:Absolutely. Had this car come up with a good polish for £125, it would be a rare bargain. Leak is a return hose (it ain't HP for sure) so that's cheap. The bootlid wants a look at and it is forty quid for a winter's driving and £100 worth of spares. Wake up and smell the coffee, guys.
To fix listed problems, fair comment. But the word 'restore' conjurs a return to fault free status inc all body work + welding + mechanical issues(at least it does to me).tom wrote: This one's a good deal in a shabby coat. I've restored worse in a couple of weekends.

Gold!
It's fair comment though.
I've had my valver for nearly 4 years, and I thought I knew where all the rot was.
But having started dismantling it, I've found WAY more than I thought it had.
Not a vast problem, since I'm great and all, but non the less, thats a known car.
Having found what I have on that car, I suspect nearly all BX's of that era will be just as bad, it's just the underseal that hides it.
I'm really begining to wonder if there are ANY BX's left at all that are totally rot free.
The answer is no I reckon, certainly non in this country.
Although mine will be soon.
