BX TZD Turbo Estate. Tax and Test
BX TZD Turbo Estate. Tax and Test
The time has come... although my BX has lots of life still left in her, she needs a FDV valve and the time has come for us to part ways. I rebuilt the FDV originally but must have done something wrong as the suspension only rises when the steering is operated and I do not have either the time or inclination to strip it all down again.
She is a J reg top of the range TZD Turbo - pre ABS. 141,000 miles. MoT 'till Feb/March (can't remember which!) and taxed until the end of December.
However, she has a lot of nicies. I have owned her since 67,000 miles and have changed both the oil (Millers) and filter (Purflux) every 5,000 miles. I have not thrashed her when cold and have always let the engine idle for a while before switching off. She also has full-service history and a ring binder full of history and bills.
Elsewhere, the usual BX problems have not taken hold. Front hinges, rear arm bearings (replaced in 2002), glovebox lid is OK and the heater knob works and the dash pod's lights all work. The inner wings are good as well, as I have removed the outer wings and waxoyled the inners.
Other recent parts fitted include front and rear discs, a brand new alternator, nearside driveshaft, battery, radiator, fresh LHM in the tank, accumulator, front and rear spheres and four new Michelin tyres.
She has been a good friend to me and I am certain it will reward the next owner who has the time to sort the FDV issue. I would therefore prefer the car to go to an enthusiast and so sensible offers are invited.
The car is located near Kidderminster (West Midlands)
Cheers!

Thanks Oscar! I'm reckoning that it may be a funny one where the FDV is blocking the flow to the rest of the circuit. Reason this out: the steering has to be held against pressure to get the car to rise and then it falls again. There is no pressure in the suspension circuit because the stop light will not extinguish, except when there is some back pressure from the ram. The PRV never cuts off and the steering is always light. So, as the steering is the last thing to go off power and needs to be pressurised to allow the rest to pump up, perhaps the pressure regulator is bypassed? or maybe the FDV is bypassing it and preventing flow to the pressure regulator. Thinking cap job, I think but until then, I'll try a new PRV/FDV combination (As well as a good look at Grolliffe to ensure that all the pipes are in the right holes..
