Good passes
It may be just wishful thinking but it always seems to help if the car goes in with some obvious new bits on it, like track rod ends or new discs or the like. Something that's obvious to the MOT man and plants the thought the car is well cared for.
Absolutely. I had one of my Xants fail on a rear height corrector a few years back. Only it wasn't, I'd been a bit over-xealous with the grease and the MOT man mistook it for a leak. I always clean them nowadays pre-test.mnde wrote: Me'thinks that the quick shampoo and wash of the rear height corrector area paid off

Very very true that.
I've been using the same tester for years.
Last time I took the valver in, he looked underneath and said "no point checking any of that then, it's all brand new!", had a cursory look around and gave me a ticket.
That said, I put a brand new pair of TCA's on K's 205 pre mot (I knew the old ones had tired ARB bushes), they did exactley 40 miles from the farm to the tester, and he failed the N/S arm on a fooked ball joint, after 40 miles.
Needless to say the dude on the counter at GSF got an ear full, and I got another new arm, a free retest and a ticket.

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Had a similar experience with the van just recently. MOT man says "you've been busy haven't you". Yes, I had, and I proceeded to show him all the areas I've just let new metal in, and where had been repaired.docchevron1472 wrote:Last time I took the valver in, he looked underneath and said "no point checking any of that then, it's all brand new!", had a cursory look around and gave me a ticket.
He did all his normal checks, but just looked at the floor/sills and said "looks like you've got it all there!"
Maybe he just didn't want to get bitumen paint on his little hammer.

Reminds me of a time when I took the van for an MOT, I had the week off work to carry out a load of welding. I had managed to weld up the structural holes, and patially completed the bodywork when my welding was 'rained off' So I took it to the already booked MOT knowing it would fail, as I had cut out a panel just in front of the wheelarch, leaving a sharp edge. I was armed with a roll of duct tape so I could dry off the metalwork once in the MOT station and protect the edges.
After I had showed the tester the repair panel I had ready to weld in, and the repair work I had already done, he said not to worry about the hole, as it was obvious that I would sort it. Very trusting.

Technically thats not a pass thats a failfrugg wrote:As above - the GTi passed it's MOT

You mean to of said its going to pass on a retest
Mine failed on a silly "fluid Leak" silly in so far as it was probably a bit of residual from some earlier work that just required a cloth and a small tweak to a pipe. Not that bad since there has been no sign of dripage on the concreate Garage floor. Yet it Failed on that!

I suspect, from the way it was worded, that the work had been done and the pass achieved before the post was made..kiwi wrote:Technically thats not a pass thats a fail
