Simple - £500 for a car with an engine needing love - as far as I can see, as lovely as the body is there are none of us here in the present economic climate that want to spend £500 on an 8v petrol with smoky donkey.Philip Chidlow wrote:I'm possibly speaking for quite a few when I ask: 'How can you?"
I like the car, but not £500 worth of like the car. In its present state I would probably stretch to £200 -and thats my personal budget, others may be able to justify a bit more.
If it were me, I would be doing the same ( though TBH I bet with some haggling you could have got the £500 without the trade in - I know I got a healthy discount on the Zafira a few months ago and I hardly had to haggle at all), but there you go, deals done now.
I suppose if you were really desparate / had time on your hands you could find out if they were sending it round the block and if so where and then keep an eye out and go and bid. There is a possibility it may just get weighed in though as the local Perrys stealership are doing with anything less than £500 book price, it just isnt worth their while doing anything else with it - Tim may be able to shed some light on recent legislation regarding sale of cars and notifying of known faults - AFAIK there is something which now makes dealers responsible even if its passed off therough and auction, or I could be spouting bollocks and probably am...

Theres no need for that at all, its your car Rob, you can do what you like with it, its just a shame thats all as Im sure you must understand. We have a week to go so maybe someone will step in between now and then? If yo have no objections I will post the link on the CCC forum etc, have you listed it on the FCF etc etc.rob-bx16v wrote:it took some careful deliberation before posting this as i knew it probably wouldnt sell at £500. unfortunatly its going to the dealers then.

its up to you tim, but im not messing around. The dealer has offered us £500 trade in so either way the car goes to the dealer or i need £500 and its non negotiable. I dont care wether the cars worth that or not i just thought being a club member id be decent enough to let good people have the chance of a rare colour gti with an immaculate body then anyone with mechanical experiance could put the engine right as its not that bad, theres still plenty of power there and its got resoably good compression and can still be driven round theres no knocking or banging and its not smoking excessivly so for all i know it might be the valve stem seals that have not sealed.

What on Earth for? No one is threatening to tar & feather you, I think everyone understands why you are doing it, and whilst it is a bit of a shame to see one in good condition go the way of the scrappy or block, its your car, your money and no one seems to be leaping up in the air with a handfull of slightly grubby 20's.rob-bx16v wrote: A moderator may lock this post if so wished now.
£500 is £500, and indeed right now if someone offered me £8000 for the Zafira against, say, a Touran I would probably take their arm off for it too!

Poverty spec 1.9CDTi Life ( the 120BHP variant) on an 07 plate - would actually be a nice car if it wasnt for the DPF (which has been replaced) or the ECU (which has been replaced) or the whole EGR antipolution system (which has been replaced under warranty).
Come next April its getting binned as thats when the Network Q warranty runs out, unless it gets stolen or written off in the meantime ( I live in hope).
It fits the kids, wife, me and mother in law as well as prams in without any issues thanks to the Flex-7 seating, but that aside its reliability is crap. Mind you it does have a Fiat diesel engine....

Oh yes, 34MPG - no trouble at all.
Regular voyages into the land of "limp home mode" a pleasure...
Sounds like a Fordson Tractor on a cold morning, you bet.
Why they didnt embrace the HDi and use it like Ford did rather than climb into the very gritty bed with Fiat is one of lifes little mysteies....
