As the article states, it's been ongoing for a while - niche contracts with major companies are for smaller and smaller niches nowadays.
Given that the major manufacturers are scrabbling around for niches themselves to occupy their own plant and labour with in-house, and slicing a limited length of salami thinner and thinner, it's a difficult market to be in. At least from their point of view, they have a Chapter-11-like arrangement in place, something that's been sorely lacking
in this country for so long: here administration seems to be an asset stripper's charter.
