Here here!

(Yes, I know...)

Seriously though, I have big fat clumsy fingers, so a spell check is very useful for me...perhaps you could open up Word, or a similar program to help point out any mis-types. That's what I do, if I'm not sure.

Add me to that as well

And there is the other sad fact! Spell Check and the lazy people who do not check to see if it has been defaulted to the American English.

I jumped up and down about the school my Daughter is going to and thankfully the teacher she had has now gone and the Computers are set to New Zealand English which although not pefet is more English than American 8)

Drives me nuts to see the words Tire, Color spelt that american way and the letter Zed pronounced Zee. :x

I was reading a post on the Trademe Forum and despite the guy starting out the post with Tyre shop spelt correctly he continued to refer to them as Tires

If you have a recent version of Firefox, there is a spell check built in... Funnily enough, Firefox isn't in the dictionary.

It isn't life changing, but I too have fat hands, so it helps throw up any typos.

Strange, my Firefox is shown to be the latest (version 3.0.11) yet there is no menu for spellcheck that I have found. How do you select it?

Go to Preferences, click the advanced tab, and tick the box marked 'Check spelling as I type'

Easy... But you will have to go to the Mozilla website and download the English UK dictionary, as it is set to US by default

There's no spell-checker that can sort out the correctly-spelt word or phrase but in a different place/context. Hordes/hoards, reel/real, there/their, your/you're etc. etc.,

I don't expect one to materialise (especially if it's being developed by people who'd call a spade a Microsoft entrenching implement).

Journalists and people writing company or advertising copy are getting to rely on their spellcheckers more and more, and come out with some real stinkers. To me that's inexcusable, as words should be the tools of their trade.

Myself, I'm pretty broad-minded about the English language. It exists in plenty of forms, and for many purposes. It's also one of the strangest languages in the world when it comes to consistency of spelling rules. One thing's for sure, though - usage is changing a lot at the moment, and at an increasingly faster pace.
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Cock-ups are one thing, but your messages are devoid of any attempt at correct spelling, grammar, capitalisation etc. and are littered with text-talk.
