Anything about BXs

I've got a brand new wing knocking about somewhere - I'm not sure if it's the o/s but I remember it's black. I'll have a look in the morning and if it's the right one you'd be welcome to it.

Sorry missed Citro-Geoffs post. Teach me to half-read a subject!

David is right about the insurance - a lorry t-boned my 'perfect' Meteor 6 years ago (luckily he was just pulling out of a junction). The insurance payout paid for a nice trip to Spain (eventually, once the whiplash had been diagnosed). I would have still preferred my car not to have been hit though.

The insurers will almost certainly use AutoTrader to gauge current prices. Clean and polish it (yes, really), pull out any receipts for work done and find some expensive BXs for sale on the web and such like. Argue the toss with the insurers and don't take their first offer.
Ask if you can buy it back off them too, they might be persuaded to let you have it and then you can fix it up and carry on driving it though you might need a VIC check for it.

If the damge exceeds more than a third of the value of the car it will be written off I'm afraid.

Thank you to all those that joined this discussion and for the very generous offers of assistance. I have not posted in the interim as I had no additional information to volunteer or clear idea of how the other parties Insurance Company were going to behave. As suggested by Roverman and David, I notified my own insurance company of the incident but made clear I was not pursuing a claim on my policy {Comp}, I contacted the other parties insurance company directly, who were very eager to deal with it when I stated that I reserved the right to pass the matter over to "Angel assistence" {legal protection company} should I feel my interests were not being served.but for now would leave it for them to organise, within 24 hrs car was collected for assessment and courtesy car provided.
This morning received their proposal :-
"...our engineers have declared your vehicle to be beyond economical repair.....we will be dealing with this claim on a total loss basis. The category placed on your vehicle is a category C.
The pre-accident market vale has been assessed at £200 with the salvage being valued at £0 We are therefor pleased to offer you the sum of £200 with the salvage of the vehicle to remain your property...."

Posted are some more pics to show condition of rest of the car, my contention is that this car was an Automatic Diesel with fresh MOT, which I do not see very often for sale therefor to replace it with similar will cost more than £200. What do you guys think; do I quibble, for how long and for how much??

What the insurance company should have said is

"We screw over every single person who contacts us, and we always make an absurdly low offer for any car we have to pay out for. We're going to offer you a pathetic amount of £200 in the hope that you accept it and we never hear from you again."

Tell them that you expect £1200 to replace the car, and provide Auto-trader adverts for very expensive BX's.

I was once offered £350 as total loss for a Land-Rover. Got them up to £1200 in the end.

£200! are they pissed. That a laugh, NEVER take the first offer as mentioned before, I would try for £1200 and settle somewhere inbetween. Being a cat C doesnt really matter due to age and value of the car but even so it would be nice of you can get it fixed and have some cash in your pocket too.

Looking at those pics all you need is a new indicator now, I take it the headlamp and bumper clipped back on?

If you need something official you could always contact Briam Drummond at the CCC, he is the apparent club valuer and from previous experience wildly over values cars which can be sueful in this instance.

I would find out exactly what is needed to get it on the road again.
A new MOT and an inspection report may what you need.

When my Cavalier got smashed up, I could not get the insurance to give me any more than their first offer.

After the excess, they sent me a cheque for £150. :(

£200 is definately too low for this car. As it was taxed and mot'd it's got to be worth at least £600,or though in theory it is worth £2000 from the government under the scrappage scheme. Try that one on them, and see what they say.DON'T take the £200,hang on for more. As a matter of interest,I too am a CCC valuer.I do the valuations and send them to Brian who then confirms them on headed CCC paper. I have been doing it for the past 20 years now, mainly for the D models, which I used to restore. BTW offer is still open for the wing and indicator and fitting etc foc.Geoff

I must admit i'm a bit unsure where you stand in this? If anr insurer (who isnt yours as its a no fault claim on you) is offering you a settlement figure on your vehicle which they have no right too, if you accept the offer (whatever amount that might be), can they legally then take your car because you've accepted the offer?

I'm a bit confused by all this & its not even my car, so my sympathies with you thickasmud....

I might have got this wrong Mulley but I thought you have said before that you work for a large insurance company?

If so, surely you can get good info & tips from the people in your company who decide these claims?
