Gah. Clearly the alternator is more dead than I thought. Trying to start this evening and all I got was 'click.' Bump start did the trick and I then drove the 25 miles home, but the charging light was on for most of the journey back, and there was barely 12v across the terminals.
Good old low-tech BX though for getting back home despite the lack of charging!
Rushed to Peterborough to get a new alternator, it's the wrong sodding one. AND I can't get the old one off as I don't have a 21mm spanner. Gah!
