Wooscary's TZD 1993
So after only ever owning VWs, for some reason I decided that a BX seemed like a good idea. And so far everything is great. Driving involves a lot more smiling now.
Gave it a good wash yesterday and the sun was shining so it seemed like a good time to shoot some photos.
Done:
CD player
New speakers all round
Things to do:
Rear headrests
Cambelt
Foglights (no idea on availability of these?)

Tidy looking motor that, fog lamps are shared with other Citroen Peugeot models, you CAN buy them new from www.gsfcarparts.com but are expensive!
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

Ah, that's useful to know. So something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peugeot-205-GTI-3 ... 500wt_1154.

I have a pair of these, new, in their own boxes. 100EU, the same price as on the site plus p&p. don't know exactly the rates, but I can ask tomorrow at the post office. I'm from Romania, but the postage won't be too expensive I think.
those on the e-bay link are for MkI BX's, and at GSF a MkII pair costs 46.65 quid exc. VAT & Delivery

Noticing a few small rust areas, just wondering what people think about the best action, some of them aren't in the most obvious places really.

Also, does anyone know if these will fit the bumper I have?

Many thanks.

I'd say those lamps look a bit too deep and not wide enough to fill your holes (ooh errr) satisfactorily...
These on the other hand:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ring-Microline-Ha ... 4aa4e5deff
Are cheaper, fit really well and don't take too much imagination to fit. Plus they come with a whole wiring kit should you need it.
I have them fitted to the Valver bumper. You also have the benefit of the covers which mean they tend to last longer!
EDIT:
Found them even cheaper AND they do a FOG version:

I'll have you know I have very accommodating holes (!!??)
But yes, I see what you mean, and those are much cheaper.
That's great. I'm of course not even sure if there are any electrics present, as the original bumper wasn't a fog light version. So that throws up so many more questions. Always the way.
Thanks for the links.

That rust doesn't look too bad - my advice would be to wire brush as much of it off as you can, then use a phosphoric acid rust converter to get any you can't get to (a thin fluid will get right into the seam). Then seam sealant in the seams from the top, then paint on the top and waxoyl from behind. The A posts and bottom of the C posts are a common spot for BXs.
Re the lights - I have these which fit quite well in the bumper - they have a spot lens and fog lens.

Thanks massively for that, exactly what I wanted to hear. It doesn't seem bad at all yet, but just wanted that reassurance.mat_fenwick wrote:That rust doesn't look too bad - my advice would be to wire brush as much of it off as you can, then use a phosphoric acid rust converter to get any you can't get to (a thin fluid will get right into the seam). And those lights look really cool. Are they available from anywhere currently?

Sadly it seems they aren't made any more…I had a quick look on the Ring website and a general Google search (they are something like Ring x4 Dual Illuminator) and I can't find them any more. One cracked a couple of years back and I had a job finding them then, but I do have one spare still! Sod's law will mean I probably break 'em both tomorrow...
Although the fog beam is good, under bumper mounting means the spot beam is a little lower than ideal - but is still considerably better than main beam alone.

MOT coming up on the 11th! Argh. I always hate the first MOT after getting a car.
So, at the moment it isn't looking too bad.
1:The rear screen washer doesn't work, is that a fail? What if I take off the wiper?
2:Rear foglight switch obviously has some kind of connection issue
as the light on the switch doesn't come on consistently (I believe you need a "tell tale"?)
3:Horn is a bit quiet.
4:Possibly the most serious, there is a bit of a strange feeling in the steering at lower speeds and especially the closer it is to lock either way, bit of a judder and a knock or two.
Other than that...
