That sounds interesting - especially as Graham tells me that the damn thing is near inaccessible (I've not been under to have a look yet)

I don't suppose there's any photos of the Octopus in situ in this 4x4?

Not that I'm gloating or owt, since Paul's car works, and mine is dying a slow and painful death, ahnging on by it's teeth for the bus to be finished so it have the resto it deserves...

That's not a standard ratio gearbox for a td is it doc?

Not quite no, although much like the rest of the car the box is not a happy piece of machinary right now, so it'll get replaced with a known excellent spare box I have c/w very good previousley docced engine! :D

Did you just use the standard box & change the ratio's? or was a totally different box fitted?

It's a BE3 with a diff made to spec by a little company in Brizzle for me.
The gear set is part TD, part GTi 8V and, erm, I forget what the 5th gear set came out of...

Either way the synchro is dying, the bearings are going and generally it's had it.. I have abused the hell out of it mind!
