Nice! That's what I was aiming for with mine... Although I'd never go as far as putting 16v badge on.

Great to see the old 4x4 in working order and being shown with the other BXs. It's what I'd envisaged but it never happened.

Hey Chris not perfect but very useable, most of its bad boints are sorted bumpers need painting tho and Tim's casual shout of" your reversing lights aren't working I'll fix !"that has lead to a more in depth fault finding but otherwise good. I'd still like to find the guy who destroyed all the heater controls and poke him in the eye with a sharp stick.

:) I remember that. I know the previous guy had the dash in and out a lot. He was borrowing the loom for his throttle-bodied 16v. I remember him trying the 4x4's ECU on it when he first put the throttle bodies on to see what it was like then went and bought a programable ECU. I had to nag him to put it back together before I picked it up if I remember.
I never had the dash or heater controls off. I do remember having to operate the heater with the mechanism down by my left leg though.

As much as I'd not like to blame one of my best mates, I think it was him...

ah borrowing the loom!!!! may explain a few of it's electrical gremlins too feel free to borrow my sharp stick and point out the error of his ways.Interesting concept using the loom off a rare factory fit aircon 4x4 for a common or garden 16 valver If there is Karma reincarnation as a dung beetle would be good

To him the 4x4 was a rare but less capable GTi than his 16valve. Well, not quite but I don't think he had much love for it once he'd got the 16v. If you're the type of guy he is I can see that, the 16v is fast and capable. I prefer the 4x4 though I think. The 16v has only just gone out of daily use, replaced by an Alfa 156 2.4 diesel. He changes his mind weekly about it's fate too, it does have the feel of a tired car these days. not in the way it drives, it feels tight to me but the shell creaks and rattles these days. Probably caused by the XM spheres.
When I had the 4x4 I wanted a 16v but I've always lusted after the range topper with whatever I've had;
1.0 Polo and I wanted the supercharged G40
1.8 Sierra made me want a cosworth
1.4 Astra... actually, no, I never wanted another vauxhall
4x4 made me want a 16v along side
1.8 MK1 Focus makes me want a MK1 RS.
1995 ZX-9R made me want the one I have now.
I don't know why that happens to me.

The worst thing I found in the electrics was the choc block connectors that had wired the speakers left-right as front-back!

Not that I'm at all biased but I don't consider the 16V as the range topper never been a fan of 16V rev in anything having had several golf Gtis the 8V beat the 16v hands down. And yes Vanny it may require lots more wiring work now it obvious something major isn't right a few small things are wrong like the fuel guage always goes to full with the headlights on . Well something to do on nights and weekends lol

I was at his house yesterday, he corrected me on the dashing being out although the engine's loom was swapped about.
He said the heater controls broke at some early point in his ownership but I don't know why exactly, he didn't elaborate.
It never that that fuel gauge issue when I had it. The dash lights did go out when I had it though, I remember setting off to newcastle one night and when I turned the lights on the dash lights blinked then went out and there was a slight burning smell. I had to use the interior light for the speedo.

And do you reckon? I'd have said a valver was quicker than a Golf GTI? Or maybe they feel it coz they're revvy. Simran's felt quick to me though. Quicker than his Alfa even though he says it's not.

Cant help but think it might be quicker if you fit an entire 16v body loom with the two cars sat side by side. Might save an aweful lot of messing about! Likely hood is that its either a powered earth or a couple of crossed over wires, but you might be tapping out wires for months. On the plus side you have quite a few symptoms so it might be worth studying the diagrams to see if there is a common link!

I will investigate ,it it's only French wiring can't be that complicated can it ? It does prove the old adage a little knowledge is dangerous and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I agree with dollywobbler:
That white 16V looks very nice, but I don't think it ever was a St Tropez.
I suspect the owner has swapped the plates from another car so he can drive it to the show without doing the costly paperwork. Naughty.
I think an MOT man would quickly spot it's not the St Tropez under the bonnet.
I wish my car had that paintwork.

French diagrams, Spanish wiring, Brazillian connectors (well thats the only place you can get them from these days). You might want to spend a few years at Hogwarts!
