Pretty sure that'll be a fail due to proximity to the suspension mounting.

The MOT Manual wrote:Any part of a load bearing member, or load bearing panelling within a 'prescribed area', should be rejected if it is weakened by corrosion to the extent that
- by finger/thumb pressure it does not feel rigid, or
- it crumbles to leave a hole, or
- The Corrosion Assessment Tool
. penetrates, or
. causes the metal component to crumble or disintegrate
Prescribed area is:
- The load bearing parts of the vehicle to which certain testable items (as specified in section 2, 3 and 5) are mounted.
- Any structure or panelling which is supportive to either the component mounting or its load bearing member within 30cm of the mounting location. eg. In the examination of a seat belt mounting on an inner sill, consideration must be given to the outer sill, door pillar, floor panel, wheel arch or any other supportive structure within 30cm of the component mounting point.
So yes, it will be a fail but if the surrounding area is not weakened (chances are it will be...) then you could drill a hole (eg for waxoyl access), and it may pass!

my BX has a hole in the rear chassis leg on the o/side. Its about half the size of a 5 pence coin. Now to me thats not much to worry about but its due an MOT in 4 weeks i thought id ask if anyone knows for sure if its an MOT fail.

(im assuming its fail due to its location etc)

If its not its going straight down to the test centre :)
One of the failure points on the Rover was a 50p size hole and it was an instant fail as its part of the vehicle structure, I would get it fixed.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

obviously the holes on mine would be a fail, but I rather doubt that there was no corrosion there at the last mot... So it also depends on the MOT center.

Very true that.
Smiffy's last BX is largely devoid of any structure at all underneath, it's rotten as hell, no way did that lot happen in 12 months! Yet it passed the last MoT.

If thats the only major corrosion you're aware of then I'd say this one is a fair bet, infact if Smiffy gets out of bed early enough the day after we collect this then I'll drop the subframe and set to with the MiG and see if it can't be made MoTable!
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Id still like them please smiffy, i havent done much to the CX apart from welding it up yet. (which is why welding the BX up holds no interest for me at the moment)

CX mirrors

Post by smiffy1071 »

Hi Matt, I've boxed them up, and weighed them.

The mirrors are gratis, but postage will be a tad under £9.

If you can do paypal to my e-mail smiffy1071@hotmail.com

and send me your postal address, I'll get them in the post.

Got home fine thanks Kris. Well, I did! I assume Smiffy has aswell.
Was great to meet you, and Nemo!, lovely lovely doggie!

Car didn't miss a beat and given a bit of tinkerage over the coming weeks should make a cracking motor!

As for keeping eachother warm... you must be joking right?
Me and smiffy in a car together is a horrid experience for either of us.
He always feels hot, I always feel cold.
So, yet again today, Smiffy's asleep, snoring and has his window down, while I'm awake and freezing my tits off.
I'd have minded less had I been driving at the time!

Yes indeed, the car is a good-un, and will be even better by this time tomorrow.

Remote central locking, rear headrests, GTi dashboard, CD player....the list goes on.

Thanks again!
