TU3 engine
TU3 engine
I've been trying to source a new Carb for my 14 and the supplier has offered one listed as being for a BX14 TU3 engine...
My question, do I have a TU3 engine? As far as I can tell mine's a K1G variant of the TU engine and I don't know if that's the same thing!
Thanks

I've trawled ebay with no luck. I might ring around a few specialist Citroen garages and put the job out to tender...
To be honest, at that price, I might as well look into getting an AX GT Carb and manifold fitted. I'm not sure how long the camshaft would put up with it though as the GT's is toughened.

I did find this on eay which is for a TU 14 engine, but it looks quite a bit different to mine! Nice price though

Simply fitting the GT carb & manifold wouldn't put the cam under any more strain. You wouldn't get the full benefit of the carb without the peakier cam (so you may run a bit on the rich side).
All cams are heat treated otherwise they wouldn't last long at all - I would doubt very much the GT cam has any different heat treatment (but I'm willing to be proved otherwise if someone knows for sure!)

I'm not sure what the dog would think of it.

Whats the trouble your having with the BX14 scarecrow?
I have to say mine isnt brilliant, even with the new vacume capsule for the dizzy and a total strip rebuild of the carb, mine still does a silly little miss lurch when cold.
I was bothered until a mate of mine (who worked in a cit garage back in the day) said, oh yeah they all did that even when new.
So im ignoring it, cos even if he's wrong, after 200 quids worth of work looking for a possible non exsistant fault, i aint spending more in that area.

Mine does the lurch pulling away when cold and when very hot. It also flutters when cruising. Accelerates very well on full throttle, but seems to have a multitude of power bands under moderate acceleration. There is no misfire though.
The car starts fine on cold mornings with the manual choke out but seems to Rev. far too high and then with the choke pushed further in, sounds like it's about to flood (though it never does). The point at which it became unacceptable was on a long run last week when the car suffered from lag after down hill sections, and eventually developed a temporary misfire which made me turn round and go home! That hasn't happened again.
Oh and it takes a while to start from hot - worse than my old bx 14.
I've had the capsule and the vacuum units for both Carb and distributor replaced (and new leads and dizzy cap). The tappets have all been adjusted and I've had two new fuel pumps...
Not to mention just having a new radius bearing fitted and new brakes.
You could say I'm committed (or maybe, should be committed)

AX GT/205 XS setup all the way. You\'ll pick one up for pennies on AXOC. It\'ll plug and play with your engine, the cam isn\'t any stronger on the AX, just has very slightly different duration and to be frank, they\'re pretty much all nadged by now anyway!
Only thing is to make sure you get an AX GT inlet gasket (obv!) and the inlet trunking from airbox to carb to suit the oval intake on the top of the AX carb.
Once it\'s hooked up you should get a kick in the back (as much kick as a 1.4 TU can give, mind) when you press it hard enough to get the second choke open. The needles are often worn and this won\'t work, which\'ll screw the economy up too. But thankfully they\'re easy to rebuild and spares are available.

Thanks for that Kitch. I'll have a look at the AXOC later.
The acceleration isn't so bad on a 14 - but the fuel consumption is awful if driven with spirit. In fact, it's made me want a Valver/GTI at some point (probably when I've got a couple of grand lying around that I have no use for...
I'm a bit nervous of a club for AX owners - should I go armed with a baseball cap or a shopping trolley?

Kitch - I do need the inlet manifold as well, right? Do I need to match my engine, or am I safe across the whole TU 14 range?
Thanks

See that\'s making sweeping generalisations there....most of the guys on the AX forum aren\'t chavs! Likewise 50% of the Saxo forums. You\'ll have a handful of people who think the BX is cool, the rest might laugh at a 1.4 BX :p
The economy should be pretty good, although my 14 was awful before I did the conversion but to be fair it was probably due to the way I drove.
And yeah, you do need the inlet manifold. It\'s water cooled too, so you will need the matching gasket. The AX GT inlet and carb are bigger than the stock BX one and with a good running engine you\'ll be keeping up with 16\'s easily, possibly even the Tizzydees! Dizzy speed, I know!
