I belonged to a classic bike club that has a 'library' of such special tools that can be borrowed against a refundable deposit. This means that specialist pullers and such can be obtained for the cost of postage.

Worth doing here .........?

Pleides did sell them, either Type A for use on the car, or Type D for use in a vice off the car.

Type A came with both 3.5 and 4.5mm die and punch sets.
Type D would also use the 6.35mm die and punch set.

I will see if I still have the picture from the catalogue.

I've got the vice-mounted version with 3.5 and 4.5 dies and it's a lovely bit of kit. The same pipes are used on 2CVs and H vans so it gets a fair bit of use!
However it was flippin' expensive and I think they are now very hard to get. Jeff Winterman the H van specialist (who lives up the road from me) had a few last year, but I think he said he couldn't get any more.

Pleiades used to sell a connecter block which could be used to join lengths of pipe - I've got a couple left that I'm keeping for emergencies.
I can't see any reason why you couldn't use standard automotive brake line flares/couplings for in-line repairs, unless they would struggle with the high pressures generated - higher than in a standard braking system?

Right,

Ive got the details of the pipe on your post overhere2.

PM me with your address to send it to etc and i will make one up on saturday for you (thats soonest i can get to the workshop where the tool is)

is that OK?

And as for splicing, yes totally possible but you will need the tool yourself to make the end on whats left of the old pipe, as has been stated above)

The 3.5mm one from plaedies cost me about 70 quid 4 years ago.

Ive just been offered one that does 3.5, 4.5 and the 6.35 with different dies, but its over 200 quid.

Thanks for your interest. Just had a talk with my brother who suggested it could be soldered or brazed with say wrapping the pipe inside a regular brake pipe, now thats worth looking into.---The vehicles at the bottom are they in your possession now (impressive) or previously owned?

Don't think I fancy soldering for that pressure. Just not worth the risk. And by the time you've taken it off, (possibly wrecking the fixing nuts if they're a bit elderly) fixed it and put it back on, much better to let Stinkwheel make you a new one.

Yes, all those on the list are current possessions - one of the advantages of having a big barn! A list of former vehicles would take several pages... The Dolly's run out of Controle Technique and is awaiting being turned into a van, the Charleston exists as a pile of bits and a V5, the H van Betaillere/horsebox is used as a garden shed and the Beetle's been off the road since 1985, otherwise they all work, sort of.
