At last a sensible response.
I cannot beleive that the members of this club have missed the mark by so much!
The breaking of cars is not th eissue the issue is the breaking of words.
I have removed the topic as stirring things up is just pointless.
Cheers

I agree, its boring now. It happens and people not involved will read into it in whichever way they want so it doesn't matter.

Wish I hadnt said anything now < I pointed it out so we can try and avoid such things, if it came to it with the bxclub .co.uk that people were being unfair about other members behaviour and also there cars and their taste in cars I may add I would choose not to be a part of it and leave the club. Theres not many of bx enthusiasts considering how many cars they made so we should all stick together and help out when we can, and do on most occasions I am pleased to say!.
What people do with their property is their business but again it is sad when a rare(ish) car gets broken. Ive had this arguement with people buying early model SD1s for there V8 engines for MGB TR7s kitcars etc etc then scrapping a perfectly good shell, but sadly its a free society so besides moan there not alot I can do!

I'll try to throw a lighter note into this, seeing as how I am on both forums as well as a couple few of you guys ever see (in some cases probably wouldn't want to)
Remember: This is a true story!!
A 16V owner advertises his car for sale a couple of years ago for $5500 claiming it had just had over A$10,000 spent on it in the preceding 18 months. There's a flurry of excitement and it gets sold to a young guy who obviously has no DIY skills. He collects the car and pays the cash and agrees it is being bought "as is" but going home, it overheats.
After a few attempts to sort the problem he posts on a forum about the problems he's having as opposed to the money that's been spent and not happy with repairer. Supposed friend of repairer posts saying that his mate reckons the reason the car isn't right is due to the previous owner being a bit "tight" (doesn't like spending money) so new owner posts a list of what has been done which included such gems as "service to ECU - $550" and so it went on.
Red faced repairer then offers 'as a show of good faith' to fix the problem which was a split hose connection from the matrix (which he'd previously charged 100s of $$s to fix) and when it comes back, it still leaks and as had been done previously, an attempt made to stick it on with silicone sealant. He tries another "specialist" who wants $2300 up front to take the head off and do a clutch. When he eventually goes to collect the car, he gets hit with another bill for I think it was $1500+; the car still isn't going right. He takes it to a Pug mechanic who has it for months and hits him with another bill close to $5000. He then fits new spheres and a few other things and by this time he's getting close to A$10,000 he has spent over an 18 month period. Ad to this, $5500 for the car and the previous owner apparently had been clipped closer to $12,500 and what have you got? A BX16V that between 2 owners has had $18,000 not including the first owners purchase price spent on it. Going on values when he bought it, this means overall, approx $A25 - A$30,000 has been poured into this one car.
Now comes the silly part; the owner that has been genuinely trying to sort the problems decides he really doesn't like BX16Vs and they are outdated, can be outhandled by a Daewoo Matiz (honest; he did say that apparently) don't ride as well as they are claimed, are so unreliable that nobody should buy them unless they intend spending mega bucks a year on maintenance, have no resale value and will post a negative response to any and every posting made on BXs in particular 16Vs; Oh, forgot to mention, whilst all this was going on, he has the car advertised for sale!! go figure that mentality.
Whenever he gets an enquiry, he runs the car down, not just it but every 16V that was ever made and anyone associated with them and chases the buyer off. People p[ost that they're thinking of buying one; he advises against it and so it goes on. Then he complains that they are bad property and he would be flat out giving his away. He then keeps adding to his postings that if it doesn't sell soon, that the "engine might just fall out and land in a 2o5" a genuine buyer contacts him from interstate and is promptly given a horror story and effectively advised (by the seller) not to buy it. One of the local cannibals shows interest whilst another genuine BX owner (who occasionally visits this forum) to his credit offers to buy the body if this were to happen.
I get a series of PMs, e-mails and phone calls and spend hours fielding questions from buyers that this guy was chasing whislt at the same time continually promoting the idea of wrecking it. As a comparison, we have bought 2 wrecks, one we fixed the other that was on the wreck register so can't even if we wanted to, for $1200 and $900 respectively and as I told him, this is what he is inviting as an offer by advertising this way. When he could see he was going to sell the car, he even posted insisting that I stop making comment on his car because I hadn't seen it and didn't know it, but it was so obviously a stupid act I ignored it and eventually one guy based on my diagnosis of its supposed current problem, bought it, spent 5 minutes on it and fixed it, topped up the LHM and drove it 150 klms home and has been happy ever since; he's rapt in it...Price you ask???
How does A$3500 sound?
Now, whether he just got so pi$$ed off by spending money, being touched up by dodgy repairers or has a death wish on his bank account, farbeit for me to comment, but it does show how irrational some can be in some cases.
The guys you are having problems with I reckon I can pick in one as we had a very active 16V member who was deeply involved in the 2o5 group who I had a really rugged go in with on the old BX forum, the 16V forum and eventually on the Andyspares forum who I suspect saw me as a threat to his scavenging actions and eventually left them all, the last being the 16V forum whereupon he spat the dummy, picked up his bat and ball and disappeared along with his little playmates (some of whom I thought had a bit more to them than they displayed) We had the crazy Scot who with someone from the Midlands area from memory were last seen flying all over the country saving BX 16Vs from a fate worse than death but suddenly disappeared so doubtless decided that cash meant more than scruples and passed over to the dark side and of course we had Mike from Cardiff who seemed to be heading for a place in the Guinness Book of records for scrapping the most 16Vs; I neve did hear what happened to him, but he was crushing them so fast, one can only assume that eventually he did one so fast, he didn't get out of the car quick enough.
In the long term, I feel the style of the BX being as unique as it is, will eventually find people digging up old bodies and looking for converted Pugs to retro fit the mechanicals to.
It's happened in other brands in times gone by so no reason to think it won't happen with these; not on a grand scale, but by future car collectors and enthusiasts.
Hope my little local tale is worthy of a read and if nothing else, a bit of a grin.

That would be DeathWolf(crazy scot) and AndyC.AlanS wrote:We had the crazy Scot who with someone from the Midlands area from memory were last seen flying all over the country saving BX 16Vs from a fate worse than death but suddenly disappeared so doubtless decided that cash meant more than scruples and passed over to the dark side
Just to put you straight on that one, AndyC saved only and handful of 16v's and a shed load of 4x4's. One of the 4x4's was totally gone and the whole lot scrapped, a second the a pillars where totally rotten out and the mechanicals went on a pallet to Brazil, the third was meticulously destroyed by the 'crazy scot' and a perfectly working 4x4 with loads spent on it ended in the scrap much to andy's dismay and he still crys about that!
As for the 16v's, several where broken, i think one possibly two engines went to the 205's, a number of engines went back into BX's possibly through Ollie, of a few that went back to the road one at least was written off. Most of the shells where dogged, and the good shells stayed on the road. Of the bad stuff, Andy saved EVERYTHING and i mean everything. I think Kitch and i have now cleared his loft of just about everything (provided me a complete rack very recently), and the parts have gone all ove the place mostly through me to other BX's both 16v's and none.
Andy has now moved on to Activa's (they have more room and he is HUGE), he couldn't face another BX following the binning of the good 4x4!
So NO, not everyone is against the 16v!

You were spot on with the deathwolf but it wasn't AndyC who I was referring to, this was someone else whose nick I can't remember.
DW was tangled up with Andy earlier in the piece; this was towards the end and if you remember they were supposedly trapsing all over the country grabbing anything that popped its head up and I think some may have ended at Andys.
It came to such an abrupt halt that I think the wheels fell off the cart somewhere because prior to this, they almost had everybody who wanted to sell a car not brave enough to advertise the fact.
Whatever happened to the Scot crazyman?
............and I don't think I inferred that everyone was against the 16V particularly Andy.

Aye, I wondered what was happening. Is there some sort of bizarre reason why people felt the need to come on here with strange names and post utter cr*p? Maybe it`s a splinter group of the Real VW Group or pehaps the Paramilitary Wing of the Peugot club?Marty wrote:Some of that is down to the three wise men booting spammers & casino sites off - almost dailycavmad wrote:I did wonder why the amount of registered users of this site kept rising and falling almost daily?
Keep up the good work anway, if it stops these nitwits from hasselling everyone it`s got to be worth it!
