You could get all that welding done & take it to an indy & get the octopi done & most of the other jobs for around £600 all in, so if it was a problem free car what would it be worth, more than the £600 imho, but it takes effort or a new owners skill & it could be done for a fraction of the price i've said above, so its saveable if anyone can be arsed, if not then its scrap unfortunately.

If it was my car I would do the octopii myself (never done it and would like to give it a go) and anything else (except welding cos I don't weld), then take it somewhere and spend 100 to get it welded. But, buy it, drive it to my house, etc etc .....no I have one already.

EDIT: oh, just re-read the list of problems, forgot about the 3rd gear issue. Nah if it was mine and if it is the synchro that's gone, with all the other prblems on it, I'd drive it to the scrapyard while I still could.

I have two petrol engined gearboxes that could go with it -- I suspect the bits that matter are the same, only the ratio's of the cogs being different.

You don't need syncro if you can double de-clutch

I always thought I could, but I can't, except I can time it just right while changing up so the revs drop to exactly the right level.

Just takes practice & then before you notice it you just do it automatically & just as quick as normal gear changes. It does feel alien at 1st, but if you do it slowly to begin with, it does get faster which is the whole point of doing it so that you get nice seamless downshifts
