Jaba wrote:Rich, the problem with the Forum's polling is that you can only choose ONE date to vote for when there may be many other dates that would be suitable too.
So perhaps there is a better way of doing this online ?

I can't make Sep 15/16 as I am away in Russia but I really want to make it if you can find another date before Sep 3rd or after 19th.
Problem sorted - should now be three options rather than one :)

Here's a perfect example of why the rolling road is a good thing:

That's from a GT. You wouldn't know there was an issue to drive it, but there is clearly something underlying!

We tried looking to see what it was, but we saw nothing :(

The 16v had a better day though:

My money is on lots of things being worn out. Mileage has no real bearing on it (although I wouldn't call 190k on a 27 year old car 'intergalactic') - carb is probably the most likely culprit for the spikes and flat spots in power, but I'll do a compression test and a few other checks to see what the rest of the engine is like. Cam could well be worn, but that's a pretty easy fix at least.

Like I say though, until you put it on you have no idea just what's going on underneath.

You think? It seems like a rather low mileage to be significantly worn, i've no idea of the setup but can it be shimmed out like a *cough* diesel?

I've only ever seen one worn cam, on a little old lady car, around 40k, and as best we could tell it had never made 2nd gear. Shiney white lobes where not what i expected.

190k a low mileage? :o Rover V8s tend to do theirs within 80k if unsympathetic with oil changes.

Did a compression test on the GT today - all was well. No.3 slightly lower than the others but most at 200psi, which was nice. I think fresh fuel, rebuild the carb and retune it before another run. until the fuelling issues are sorted (which are the main cause of the spikes in the graph) the rest might just be speculation.

I'd love to know what the TD is putting out. Since this engine is stock and not buggered about with, but the turbo's turned down a tad. Suspect you'd be unable to read the results with the amoutn of black clag it throws out though!

AFR is trickier to decipher on a diesel anyway, but clag is always good fun

Yep, too right. It's very difficult to tell how well she's running carby wise atm because the massively blowing exhaust manifold on cylinders 1 and 4 is messing it all up! Only benefit i have observed is that she's much more responsive and, believe it or not, much quieter since the ignition system renewal and new air filter. The exhaust manifold has deteriorated (as in got louder) over time since I got her, can't wait for it to be sorted - but that isn't going to be until early august at the earliest. Don't think she'll be on the road until the ICCCR now... (lack of funds)

Righto guys, not a lot of interest in terms of polling for date. I know some of you are dead serious, others may be just jumping on the wagon with no real intention of making it happen.

So, for that reason I'm going to call off the day (I don't normally bother trying to organise events for this very reason), but I know some of you were dead keen and that still being the case I'll extend the offer to you guys alone on an individual basis. Apart from Hilary - I'll do the Activa or that Jowett Javelin F.O.C in my own time purely for my own interest

So I'm scrapping the day, but those who had no intention of messing around are welcome anytime. Likewise, if you want to continue to organise a day where you all hit it together and have a bit of a social at the same time, I'll do what I can to make it happen.

Cheers
