I do plan on having the Mk1 estate there - hopefully in some sort of mock-up of its previously-abandoned state. Something that ISN'T shiny always gets LOTS of attention. I definitely don't want three immaculate cars.

What about the one up for auction on Car & Classic? That should spark some interest.

Am i missing something?

I've got to the end of page 4 and i assume this is for a particular show, but it doesn't seem to be mentioned. And isn't in the title. As best i can tell we're all just gonna drive into the NEC one weekend for a laugh!

Someone want to fill me in?

Vanny - it's the NEC Classic Motor Show. Pretty much the biggest classic event and the traditional close of the season. It can be very 'ooh look how shiny my exceedingly popular classic is' but they do mix some oddball stuff in. The Yugo club were there last year for the first time and seemed to go down very well. And if you think people have a problem with BXs, the Rover 75/MG ZT club were there last year, and one stand had modern Audis on it!

As you know I am local to the NEC and can supply a good selection of BX's in good condition, the GT would be an excellent contender, it would be a great idea to have a mix and match of Mk1 and Mk2 cars, a nice 16v would be ideal. I know were not all polishers BUT we do need some tidy cars but one tatty one always draws the crowds too.

It depends on how many cars we can get on, I have BX posters etc too

I'm quite happy to provide my valver Tim. Sans stickers or avec stickers? I think avec stickers:)

I think the cars chosen should be as different as possible, eg a MK1, an estate, a basic model and a top spec model.

I also suggest as original as possible for all examples.

A van would be good because you never saw them on mainland UK.

IMO, definitely need a hatch and an estate, preferably not *all* red - and yes Mark, you should leave the stickers on for the show - will they last that long?

Hopefully Sandre, they've lasted 2597 miles in nine days through France & Switzerland, so they should be ok for the NEC show. I'll be taking it to the Northern Rally avec stickers if you want a gander. I was going to leave all the grime and accumulated detritus that it collected on the Classic Challenge, but my OCD for cleanliness forced me to wash it today. :)

Stickers should be ok. The BXagon ones on my Mk2 have only faded a bit after two-and-a-half years!

My Mk1 gets us several boxes ticked. Not shiny, estate, basic, Mk1. Having a bit of trouble deciding whether to have a nice, shiny Mk1 as a contrast, or whether two extremes of Mk2 are needed (ie a Phase 2 Valver and something like a St Tropez). Plenty of time to think about it!

Thinking about what to have on the stand other than cars, does anyone have a complete, clean front strut? Would be nice to demonstrate some of the technology.

I should have the Mk1 in a nicely presentable form by then (if I don't something will have gone wrong!)... It's a 'D' plate 1986, so last of the MK1's. It's a rare diesel auto too. See my blog for pic.

Right. Just got the info from the organisers. We're right next to 2CVGB! That'll be good. Stand is 15m by 5m, so we've actually got lots of space. We might well be able to have four cars. We don't want them too close together.

One potential issue is that we need Public Liability Insurance for the stand. Most clubs have this anyway, but we don't. We can pay £55 for the NEC's own insurance providers to cover us - if we all chip a few quid in, we should cover that - or we can consider other options. Could we get a better deal elsewhere?

I think £55 isnt bad really, I would be happy to chip in. The 19DTR will also be restored by then too.

I can see I'm going to end up picking cars out of hats...

How much are people willing to chip in for the insurance? I'm willing to pay out of my own pocket but naturally I don't want to be left short.
