Have you greased the L lever clutch linkage (link the clutch cable to the release lever)?
This L lever bearing is a common failure for seizing. I would recommend that this is unbolted and lubed first
Yes I had forgotten about this common fault, our cold climate friend knows all about this. look here:

Hi..again...(I’ll have to be brief as the elecys on the blink  )

Not me personally but yes it has been greased and been done at last/every service at grahams. Its all part of his comprehensive service..he tried to explain it to me once but he lost me after "alloy"

I'm rather convinced its the cable. So ive bought one off ebay. Seems ok but of course it isn’t identical to the one attached to the car- apparently earlier bxs use a slightly different one..joy..

I might as well tell you, i worked it out by putting 3 in 1 oil directly on the wire cable that was showing/exposed out of the polymer housing/sheath. The clutch instantly improved..for 20 presses. And before anyone says, yes hydrocarbons may indeed react with the plastic/polymer etc and cause problems but its knackered anyway and i had a replacement so i thought it worth the risk to help diagnose the fault. Thinking about it I’ve never had one of these so called reactions..even when i used lighter fluid on a 1970s norev model..

One of the problems is that i dont know how the car *should* feel; ride, steer, handle, clutch/other pedals, accelerate etc. Really i could do with at least riding in another bx 16- any volunteers at the icccr? Suppose really a mk 1 but anything close really.

So hopefully it’s just the cable which is solvable. Next question is the carb then.

Well i need a new one. Before t'other Phil asks yes I’m sure that if i went on classic citroen challenge i probably could get one from France and some interior bits too for minimal cost. I may even be able to get a solex one. But I’ve already suggested this and a few flaws have already been exposed in that little plan; no car, no driver etc.

So I’ve got some quotes from some places (webcon, fastcars, and carb specialists). And i think it’s just going to be a case of saving up for one (lol no other option really). So all i need to know is:

1) How long should it take a garage (non citroen specialist) to fit a new clutch cable? Just roughly.
2) How long should it take a garage (non citroen specialist) to fit a new carb? They are experienced with carbs but not this type..or bxs for the last 20 years...
3) Any other suggestions for places to find a carb/get a quote from? (other than nicking my dad’s audi and roaming France looking for one!)

edit: sorry to answer the question, im not sure about doing it myself because, aside a lack of skills, there isnt much space in the garage and i cant even open the drivers door fully due to its proximity to an AEC Regent grill...(never thought id say that)..

As always many thanks in advance (one of these days it may just work you know?..stranger things have happened.)

Phil
P.S i think this is karma as when id come back from Ilkley (where the gallery shots were taken) i literally LOLd at a broken down new type vw polo being flatbeded away.....see i brought it on myself!
