I can see the appeal. Took ELF for MoT this morning (passed of course, no advises) and had entirely forgotten what a formiddable, comfortable and pleasant thing it is to drive. If it had a D6C under the hood it would be perfect.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

it isn't mine to sell mate, but if I did have it, I wouldn't want to sell it TBH, with the Le Mans interior it's a very nice place to be.
There's a nice big hill before the MoT place, and I always give any car I'm taking a good rag up said hill, ELF entirely lunched a Merc SLK thing, which was hilarious, especially as the cheap suit driving the Merc looked like I'd just stabbed him in the face as I passed him.
I have a growing soft spot for BX Auto's, I very much like they way the ZF works.

Agreed. In the BX it's very good. In the Xantia 2.0i auto I had it was less fun - but that was because of the added weight, I'm sure.

I always found the 19TD Xantia slow.. the D12 was ok, and the V6 was about right, that said, they realy should have made a RHD V6 Activa, that would be a Xantia I'd LIKE to own.

anyhow, I digress from the OP.. Apols.

Well - interesting development. With Liz bemoaning the loss of her smooth, quiet, well-appointed and fast-ish Xantia auto, a BX isn't on her list (foolish girl lol)... instead it looks increasingly like she may stray from the true path and get even another marque when the opportunity arises and the funds allow...

The question is... with the Xantia failing to inspire (me) and the XM footbrake proving a hurdle in manual form (and auto being supposedly prone to failure) what can I offer her from the Citroen stable that won't cost much?!

No way would I suggest C5 mk.1, or Xsara... and the ZX auto diesel is slooow (as well as having zero credibility even when compared to the BX/Xantia)...

Mmmmmm. I feel Saab 9-5 TiD 2.2 auto might be a possibility, or 2003/4 Mondeo Ghia TDci auto, or Rover 75 CDT auto/MG ZT CDTi auto, or even BMW 530D... Oh, gawd. It's not like I have £2k burning a hole in my pocket. But my lovely long-suffering wife deserves a treat (and I'd rather buy a car than a piece of jewellery  )...

Anyway, back to reality. She'll have to endure BXness for a while longer... Especially if she wants a holiday!

What are my chance,s

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear Phil.
If you are looking into getting any 16v SAAB Phil, you would be wise
to check the life of the timing chains, how much and is it still an engine
and box out job :?:
My Dad has had 2 or 3 diesel Mondeo,s, for towing his very large
caravan  He is 75 now, I know he has a private number plate on his
last new one, so I think he may be keeping this one for a while, he is a
high mileage driver aswell. I know the one he has now has 18" alloys
from standard  The first time I saw the car, meeting them in Bourn-
mouth, I had to tell him that both front tyres were completely bald on
the inside edges, he wasn,t happy :( My dad pays to have his and my
step mums Fiesta maintained by the selling dealer :!: They know not to
muck him about. :)
Beemers I know can have a habit of throwing sensors straight
through the bellhousings too, needing new lots of expensive bits

Well, after a brief consultation with the management, a SAAB os right out, as is the Rover/MG. BMW possibly (but not really if I have anything to do with it - talk about very expensive anonymity!)...

more likely to be Mondeo or Mercedes...

Or XM - IF I can find a good auto diesel....

What about the 406 coupe? Fabulous Pininfarina design and cheap as chips now; under a grand for 2litre petrols and 2grand+ for Hdi's in top condition. Citroen should have had that design for a Xantia coupe - now THAT would have been a nice car!
