Nah I like autos for a change I drive a 6 speed manual for work and do alot of cog changing so its nice, plus it suits the comfy realxed ride of the BX i think!

Each to their own David. Personally I prefer autos - but I'm sticking with a manual for the economy!

For day to day driving I find an auto suits fine. 20 mins crawling along in stop start traffic confirms that... But nothing beats the snicking into gear and all the heel and toe fun you can have in a manual on a good cross country. I had a BX GTI manual which had been chipped and tweaked here and there that was a real hoot... I don't think I'd ever take an auto onto the track!

This is very true indeed... and I do agree

.... and I do also agree completely with Philip, the only time I would consider an auto was if I had to drive in city-centre stop-start traffic every day.

Actually... I haven't had an auto in absolutely ages... Maybe I'll have to get one for a laugh

Well, David, have you ever driven a BX auto? Having driven auto Mercs, Toyotas and a Renault (not good), IMHO I think the BX's ZF 'box is one of the best suited to the car it is in. I have only driven GTI autos so the power is there, but a guess any gutsy BX'd feel good.

Indeed the 19carb is quick enough for me and as phil says it so smooth.

No... but I have driven Pug 309 and pug 405 auto's (which must be mechanically very similar if not the same) The 405 was lethargic, and the 309 was ok, but dreadfully boring (309's not exaclty being a "hoot" to drive in the first place!)

Of all the auto's I've driven, (rovers, hondas, mercs, and countelss others) the nicest autobox was one in a 1986 ford escort 1600. The box would actually change down at exactly the moment that you needed it too, and I don't think it was ever in the wrong gear for any situation... shame the engine, suspension, and the whole of the rest of the car in general was a pile of poop.

If it does then this ones a keeper as its the model I have always wanted. Unless I got offered a MINT TZI auto of course
