My GT spits a lot of condensation out of the exhaust and always has done so I wouldn't worry, it's been sat a while Tom so probably clearing her throat.

That lhm change will help, I've tried hydraflush and can't say I noticed any great result so would clean the filters and fit fresh lhm and see how it goes.
Lots of Motors, mostly semi broken....

It made a massive difference! Feels quite different now, much more kind of poised and magic carpet like rather than it being quite wafty before. It does use water, and I haven't found an obvious leak so will just keep an eye on it, maybe when it goes in to the garage next for some work i'll get them to do a compression test.

I hadn't planned on replacing the LHM for a while, but I think I will have to now knowing what colour it is - it'll have to wait for a while though as this has been an expensive year so far!

Took the GT out to dads today in the lovely autumn sunshine! Most of the way is a reasonably large/main and badly surfaced B road, so great for the hydraulics. Noticed quite an imrpovement in ride after cleaning the LHM filters, tick time and teh duration the HP pump is on has changed for the better too.

As it was such a lovely day and there wasn't much traffic I was quite vigorous with the old girl, I have been very gentle with her on the main part as shes not been on the road too long after lack of use for many years - but after what can only be described as quite some thrashing the engine is smoother and quieter, quicker too! Today she really lived upto the GT name and wafted speedily over a twisty, hilly badly surfaced B road So quite pleased with todays outing.

There was a problem though, when we got to dads, I was lowering the passenger electric window just as steve closed the door (with a thunk of course, because he can't ever seem to close my car doors/boots etc gently) to say bye to dad, and the glass fell off the mechanism and disappeared into the door innards. Great, so now BOTH of the front windows are in-op, I guess I really will have to get around to sorting them out now before I use it next... Still got water coming out of the exhaust too.

Common window problem, I imagine the guide has rotted out, were still available new, I feel your pain Tom as Michael slams the doors on all mine.

A rare day off work with no plans or obligations! It's GT time.

Meant to have a look at the windows today, but decided that a mini service was more important, so I did that promised coolant flush and changed the oil and filter too. The coolant was quite brown, and seemed to have tiny weeny bits of blue paper roll in it?!? Now it's pink, as it should be - used Holts two step rad flush stuff - used it before when I had a 1.6 XU ZX and it took just as long that time, must have taken over 2 hours to keep filling and draining the system as per the instructions with 30 and 15 miuns idling for each additive and plain water rinses too - must have usaed quite a lot of petrol!

Still, whilst the car was idling I resealed the opera windows as they weren't quite sealed, there was a little bit of waffling at 60/70. Also, all that fast idling (easy in a carb car, just take the throttle spring off the carb and set the revs you want by turning the throttle wheel thingy :D) hopefully got all the crap in the oilways dissolved into the oil. New oil in, and bye bye noisy tappety clicking cam noise! MUCH quieter now. Was itching to go for a spin but had to get hme, and the window is still in the door...

Windows next, and a clean - it gets quite dirty/dusty in the rented garage even under an 'indoor' car cover.

The window channels are NLA from Citroen, but Chevronics have got a batch remade. They did have a few original ones left of which I bought one a few months back, so can't comment on the 'new' ones. But they are aluminium, like the later Citroen replacements.

Related post - the windows on my Dad's GT go up and down fine, but tilt and pop out of line as they go up. I've got (seemingly) everything in place. Any ideas?

Wondering if t's the original steel channel - maybe corroded to the point where it's too thin to grip the bottom edge of the window tightly, allowing it to rock? Or worn plastic bushes between the window mechanism arms and the channel?

I finally got around to looking at the windows today, and things dont seem so bad, all that's hapenned is that one runner each side has come unbonded from the window glass, so I had the glass out and will get around (tomorrow) to cleaning the glass and sticking the runners back onto the glass. Then it should just be putting it al back together again.

You can see on the photo's it looks like the runners are just bonded/stuck in two spots onto the base of the window, doesn't seem a very reliable way of securing them to me, but I do remember reading somewhere they weren't designed to last more than 10 years.

Doors look quite clean, apart from what I assume is dinitrol that has been liberally sprayed into the cavities, I only broke one door card retaining clip each side as well! I was worrying none would want to come out, especially as they had also been dinitrolled on the inside. I decided to rip all the really thin sticky back insulatiopn stuff off in favour of putting some more effective, more modern stuff on. Wil need to get the white spirit out to get the sticky gunk off tomorrow too.

The exhaust is loose somewhere too, or misaligned as it's making a clunk noise somewhere at idle - gave the tailpipe a wiggle and it went away for a little while so will have to look into this.

Those door channels are not the normal type. They must be improvised replacements for the previous ones which do rust away and are not stuck/bonded to the glass but have a U shaped section and they fit are pushed very tightly onto the glass all along the length over a length of rubber gasket.
So make sure you use lots of very strong glass to metal adhesive to ensure they stay on for a good long time.

I did wonder if these were the factory types, from others' discussion it didn't quite add up. Just looked up the new ones available from Chevronis, £50 a side! I think I will keep what I have, they don't show any rust at all. Reseraching glass to metal adhesives, it seems the sikaflex 221 I used for the opera windows is not suitable, bum - I had planned on using that!

If you prime the glass beforehand (Google windscreen primer) then 221 seems to stick very well indeed to glass. Whether that's as well as proper glass adhesive and whether it's enough for your needs, I don't know though. But given that you'd likely need primer anyway, might be worth a try with your existing 221 if cash is tight?
