If the more traditional clubs are to survive long term, then they need to take into account clubs like ours. Having been involved in the running of the Veteran-Cycle Club for many years now, I know that a large portion of the budget goes on the publication and postage of magazines. Being an internet based club, we don't have that expense, and the more activities and services clubs like BXC provide, the less competitive the more traditional clubs look.

Big clubs still have some advantages. Public liability insurance for one, centralised funds to pay for things like public liability insurance and events for another. I can't see BXC ever being able to stump up to have parts remanufactured liked 2CVGB does. Mind you, if we can get someone like Chevronics on board, perhaps they can get parts remade if they know there's a demand for them. I know other small clubs work in partnership with suppliers to get around the funding issue.

Public liability is a big advantage, although it's something we could organise if we decided to, albiet with a lot of extra organisation to gather funds. 2CVGB's SPOG is a useful resource, but remember that most of the funding has come from the sale of shares that give a discount on parts bought, and is actually set up as a different organisation. Whatever the size of the club, that's something I'd recommend because it will limit liability in the event of a problem.

By the way, the 2CV club spent over £360 on flooring. Yes, they can use it again and again, but I just don't think it's something we want to consider. Yes, it may make the stand look a bit nicer but is the floor at the NEC really that bad? I vote for taping off the stand space and leaving it at that. The cars are the stars after all.

Yes! And really detracted from the cars I thought Ian. I don't think you'd need that much outlay (or indeed underlay see what I did there? ). As a bit of a room size remnant myself I might put my 'Carpet Finder General' hat on and have a snoop round gumtree or some such - you can get 'oat for free these days if you know where to look.

Freecycle is another possible avenue - the clue is in the first syllable

I was contemplating poking my nose into the local Citroen dealers in Letchworth as word has it that they will be refurbishing in the near future and might be able to blag some freebies instead of 'em going in a skip. Sounds like a nice little outing this weekend.

Don't get real carpet, it lasts 5 minutes under heavy foot fall!

You need to make friends with someone that does wedding marques or similar, they use a rough industrial type carpet which is perfect for putting over concrete, and at the end of a wedding they throw it in the skip. It comes in a huge array of colours as well, so find someone having an out door winder wedding with a burgundy theme and you're away. Grey is a common colour too.

This is the sort of stuff they had in the 'Citroen Museum' at ICCCCCCCCR 2012.

One of my double garages is carpeted with left overs from previous NEC shows. You leave one car/vehicle overnight on Sunday (you do not have to be gone until am Monday). On the Monday a van goes round collecting the really big sections but if you are not greedy one does very well... certainly enough to have done the open areas we had. However the taping off approach defining the stand is cheap and very effective. The lack of it was well illustrated by the CCC display which this year overall lacked something in presentation - not the cars themselves. PS: We actually had time to have done a quick discrete roller over with black emulsion.

Agree with this. I once went to the NEC with someone who had blagged enough floor covering from an exhibition that had just finished to transform a college hall.
