bx tzd rear speakers.

Post by rutter123 »

not seen these before, are they retro fitted or standard on higher trim level cars, where can i get some more as these are well shot but quite neat, they hide behind the round grilles in the rear quarter trim panels.

They are a size that is no longer produced, i enquired about this 7 years ago. Best fitting some 6x9's in the parcel shelf, they sound miles better :)

They're a bit ropey but sound ok if you stop anything below about 120hz going to them.

Fit one of these under your passenger seat for the low end and you're away: http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/kenwood- ... 15625.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My plan is to fit tweeters in those and have four 6 inch rounds on the parcel shelf. They really aren't good for normal speakers those things

yeah i thought the same about tweeters fitting there and mounting some 8 or 10 inch drivers somehow building them into the side cubby holes in the rear quarters out of sight as i dont want to butcher the parcel shelf.

Timex has provision for similar speakers by where the rear seatbelt units should go - the plan is to put some 3.5" speakers there, wire the original speakers back up in the front (2 small ones in the top of the dash plus the bass speaker under it on the Mk1) then if necessary chuck an active bass tube I've got lying around in the back.

I didn't think of using the side cubby holes - that's a neat idea! I won't butcher my parcel shelf either. I shall make some wooden (black chip board should do) cases to hold the speakers. Holes in the casing will allow the speakers to breathe a bit and they can rest on the parcel shelf.

I know very little about speakers and the such but I think a capacitor is needed to act as a filter, just letting the higher frequencies through. Those in the know can put me right! :mrgreen:

Do you remember what size they are?

You're right about the capacitor Bandit, for a cutoff of 120 Hz a 330 uF capacitor in series with the speaker should so the trick (assuming a 4 ohm speaker).

I can't remember the size, but its some weird size that isn't made anymore, its probably like metric & non metric tyres, someone thought it was a great idea to make something a different size to others, & guess what, when it didn't take off or trends changed you can't buy them anymore. I know you can with the tyres analogy, but the price difference is rather nasty :(

Yeah, I know what you mean! I was wondering what the next smaller size was, as it would be fairly easy to mount them in the space left.

They're so small its a waste of time imho. Not sure why there seems to be resistance to fitting decent 6x9's in the parcel shelf, i've got mine set up so that the wiring can be unplugged easily for those odd occasions that i have to take out the parcel shelf. Sound quality is easly worth the slight inconvenience. The one's in the Gti let a load of water in one day, i't must have been a couple of pints of water suddenly pissed out of them, the drain tubes were blocked :( Funniest thing ever, i heard a gurgling sound & then a jet of water pissing out of them, i new they were toast at that point.

The only reason I can think of is making big holes in the parcel shelf.
What connectors did you use? I want to do the same thing, but I'll make a little cabinet for them to sit on top of the shelf
