anyone fancy a trip to Germany? It's easy to get there, you just turn left at France and we can all stay at Todds!
Sounds a bit like how I navigated to the 2CV world meeting at Most a few years back:
Drive to Dover
Get on the ferry to France
Get off the ferry and join the E40 eastbound
After approximately 2 days*, turn right at Dresden!
*yes I know that's a long time, but it was in a Lomax that sprayed oil over the windscreen over 50 mph due to shot crank seals and a bent crank!

As others /\ has said ! that steering wheel just doesn't suit a MK1
However its your
so do as you please !
Also you must have gone to a lot of time trouble and expense to change/modify that over to your
'Rare option' (as you call it) , I dare say by using a donor MK2 steering wheel column ?
As the MK1 steering wheel /\ , centre spindle is an integral part of the steering wheel, unlike the MK2 which has a splined spindle/nut fastening at the top end, just under the central pad/cover !
.

The centre spindle is two-parted like the original spindle and on the top it has seven screwholes (?) to fix every wheel from MotoLita you want to. Its an option I have never seen before

Hello Thomas,
I live about 2-3 hours south of you, near Konstanz. Nice early BX you've got there. Bracht is near Düsseldorf yes? I just sold a black BX16v that went up that way after spending its whole life down here in the south.
This is my daily ride :
