It's a Polythene tank most likely - PE, or maybe a Polyproplylene one. Tha latter is glueable - just, and the former is not, though you can try a heat weld. Of course with the petrol present it could be interesting if you get the 15:1 ratio present in the surrounding air....... Epoxy, is a waste of time, btw if you do use a serious epoxy, they are excellent structural adhesives. If you use Araldite brand stuff, only use the long set version. there are lots of other versions of Araldite btw including ones that keep planes in the air!.
Personally, I'd get another tank. Ther should be markings on it with the material ie PP (polyprop) or PE (polythene), which you should be able to identify upon removal. Also the date of manufacture stamp - it is recyclable btw....
Rob's 40 valves - can't stop the rock - or do I mean rot...

Re: Rob's 40 valves - the last 8 of which aren't happy
Unfortunately I'm guessing that tanks aren't that easy to come by. Anyone got a spare one?
I'm trying to get this finished promptly so I'm going to have a go with the epoxy. JB have a fairly recent (by the looks of it) project called Waterweld - epoxy but a putty-like consistency rather than runny, which sounds better. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll get the arse of the car properly in the air, so I can get under to sort all this stuff out.
While I'm waiting for my Waterweld to arrive I've made one quick modification - given the controversy over half an inch of wheel width I imagine this will divide opinion and I'm not crazy about the look but anyway...
IMHO Citroen got many things right with the BX but the steering wheel wasn't one of them. The 8v wheel is actually a bit better than the 16v one (which is just weird) but it still isn't great. Something a bit smaller and a bit fatter transforms the feel of the car.

I know, I would rather it was black. And not chrome. But hey ho, it really is much better with it on! When I come to sell it it will have the proper original one back on
It is a better colour in real life.. honest.

I have considered these options... I don't think a wrap would stay on (though a wrap on the chrome bits might improve it). I could colour it in with a Sharpie but it would come off on my hands. Ditto trade spray.
Who am I kidding. I BLOODY LOVE IT and I'm going to bling this car to within an inch of McDonald's car park!

Well, the JB Weld stuff is very, very good. Pictures coming later of that episode.
This morning I have been chasing rot. It's time to get the bumper off and see what's what - I had already spotted some worrying bits here and there. I've been shying away from taking the bumpers off because, silly though this probably sounds, it makes the car look a lot more like an old shed and it will be the start of a period of time where the drive is a mess, before maybe I can put the bumpers back on it again and drive off into the sunset...
Rear lights were removed and this doesn't look too bad...
...but this does.
Yes - this definitely isn't looking very factory fresh.
While we're at it, this outrigger looks a bit flaky.
I'll just poke it with a screwdriver...
...and poke what's left with a flap disc...
Here's the inside with the carpet up.
I'm going to need to replace that rear corner beam, the side of the boot, and tie it into the outer wing. It will all basically be hidden once the bumper and lights are back on, so it seems like a good place for some rough and ready welding. This car was never going to be a concours restoration, so I don't feel at all bad about the prospect.
