The 'old' handbrake cable must be the only thing letting her down!....

That car is better than she came out the factory, great work. Definitely get a decent insurance price agreed as you don't want the most unfortunate 'Daisy' scenario.......

She will be well insured before i set foot in her, that i can assure you. Have started the ball rolling on that score. Going to have to use her otherwise no point in having her done.

As long as the handbrake works Tink, thats all that matters and very difficult to see with the wheels on and this is not a 'concours' restoration.

and they could of cleaned all the dust out of the front edge DOH, hard to get the staff

That's strange - all the BXs I've seen have had it in that position?

Regarding the handbrake cable, if it functions OK that's the main thing...a brand new cable is going to look pretty much the same after 6 months of normal use anyway!

I think you may be having a senior moment here Malcolm as all my BXs have this strip in zakly the same place both the MK 1s and the MK 2s!!
I have done a little research so far that possibly indicates that early MK 1s may have had the strip underneath[Mollie isnt early] and have found pics of the engine bay of the MK 1 BX Sport showing them on the top. 1983 handbook dosnt show them but 1986 does. I think ime going to leave them where they are.
Oh, and by the way, the handbrake cables are being replaced.

i worked at a Citroen service agents when the BX first came to the UK and the rubber strip was under the head lamps back then, ala CX also has it under the head lamps too so there,

I did a bit more digging, and found a Mk1 brochure where they aren't visible in an engine bay shot; and also a 1986 Mk2 brochure with them on top. So maybe we're both right and they changed with the introduction of the Mk2?

Thanks Tim, not possible yet but i will seal off the part of the garage she will go into and probably get some heat into it. Been in touch with Brian Drummond today as well re a valuation which will be in place with my insurers before i drive her home.
