I think people have only withdrawn bids because the car clearly isn't as good as they first thought. I doubt anyone has been to actually view it! It's probably started a chain with people bidding around £600, then getting outbid and thinking "fair enough. I'll go and look elsewhere." Then they get a bit of a shock when bids are retracted and they suddenly become the highest bidder! It's like a reverse auction. Very odd.

Unfortunately some members on here seem to think that a 1 owner low mileage car must be the absolute best, the pictures clearly show its a rust heap & worth a fraction of the overambition sentiment price based on nothing but a description & one rubbish photo, i find it all rather amusing myself...

It is all strange but I guess that is par for the course when you look at the chronology of the bids, additional picture uploads and retracted bids.

I spoke with them yesterday even though I has seen rust. I felt I could not just pass it off.

I have not seen it nor do I intend to go now as it seems a lot of work to take on and that us what 'we' can see.

As you would expect the paint does show signs of fading.

I think with the advisories on the 'brake' pipes, it calls into question the worth of the car.

I don't think anyone doubts it would be a lovely and valuable car if sorted but really how much would you need to spend.

The guy stated that only 166 are left on the road and therefore attributed some unknown value to this.

It may well end up with 0 bids. Be interested to read the reasons given for retraction. I guess some withdrawals would be to do with the fact that the seller was not quick to respond to any questions I fired their way. In fact, on my Ebay account with nearly 12000 feedback, I never even received a response. Perhaps he thought I was a trader?

He responded, but took time, to my questions sent from personal Ebay account.

I received a message yesterday to say I could view Thurs but not Fri or Sat which left limited time Sunday.

Draw your own conclusions!

The conclusion I draw is that it's a nice car that will need a bit of work to put straight; unless you've got a suitcase full of cash, that's true for any BX you're likely to find. The seller is not a BX enthusiast, obviously has a life and is trying to shift his late Dads car with the minimum of fuss. Go and have a look at it. If you want it, buy it. If you don't want it, don't buy it. That's about as complicated as it gets I think.

I'd hope that a nice car wouldn't need much work, that rust looks v-nasty & personally i'd walk away if the bidding got over £400 as i'd have to pay for someone to sort it out which could easily be more than what the car cost.

yeah i understand mate but i did join this forum to get more expert advise on anything bx etc and i just love the bx tzd!
i like everyone else on here was disappointed when the more pictures came up. like mulley just said just because its a low mileage car and 1 owner it doesnt make it super superb. but, to be fair and as you say the chap is only trying to sell it and not a trader or a bx nut job like us! i think to a big extent it does make it a genuine buy.
and yeah i still agree in time the car could be a cracker. im still tempted. :D
by the way, is it his ''late'' dads car or just his father in laws that has had to give up driving! ^^bx>

I'm not sure actually - either way, the cars for sale! :D

If I was after a nice TZD I'd definitely go and have a look. As far as BXs go there's probably nothing this lot don't know, but they're not that hot on: mindreading, astral travel or distance psychic viewing (well,as far as I know). If you could get it for 7 or 8 hundred quid then budget another lump to sort it, that's sounds like an OK deal to me.

If you want an A1, low miles, rust free, one owner TZD turbo that needs nothing doing to it you'll need 2 grand in your pocket - and that's if you can find one. Go and have a look - it's nice Norfolk! 8)

Can anyone shed light on how the roof would need repairing?

I doubt it's possible to get replacement 'panels' for this critical junction.

The rust is clearly more seriously on the RHS and it would appear to have perforated as water as found its way in between the laminations of the windscreen.

I did mine last year, although it wasn't as bad - just a bubble under the paint but it had still made the metal thin enough to poke a hole in it. All I did was make up repair sections, and weld them in.

The difficulty will depend on how thin the remaining metal is, but I'd suggest that by the time you've ground away the rust on the surface, it will be difficult to weld to what's left! So you'd probably have to cut back at least as far as the visible rust extends.

The roof of my first BX leaked (due to the front edge rusting) along the top edge of the windscreen. Completely cured by two strips of sturdy black PVC insulating tape taken right across the full width and continued into the door reveals. Looked very neat, too - barely noticeable, even on a white car, since it just looked like part of the windscrreen mounting rubber.

I bet when the windscreen is removed its going to be a right mess underneath, as Mat's pictures show, even a little exterior scab was hiding all of that, the scabs on that car are massive in comparison, so go figure. Its worth £400 tops in that condition imho, but if you want a low mileage TZD Turbo & are prepared to sort out the rust, then it should be a good car as long as the underneath is in better condtion than the rust thats showing externally.

As soon as I bought this BX, another car I wanted came up, and it's just come up again.

It's a TXD instead of a TZD (whatever the difference is) but if you're after a solid usable car with a nice turbo diesel engine, this is it.

It certainly is, and the link in my first line takes you to the ad, and from there everything that happened since he bought it.

That's better than walking around it twice and kicking the tyres!
