A bit obvious I know, but does the ABS have a dedicated fuse or is it shared with something. Quite often, the simplest solutions are the least obvious.

If you pull the ABS fuse the light will be permanently on, achieving a very definite fail at MOT time

it will almost certainly be a sensor wire fractured as you say it did come and go,

the wires fracture at the point they are flexed, fronts as the bend around the strut, rears as they go over the rear arm,

all you need is a multi meter set to OHM's or HENERY's, unplug each sensor connector one at a time ( unless you can multi task ) and test across the terminals,
fronts engine bay, rears under back seat base swab

ooooh la la,

once you have the plug at the ABS end in your hand/fingers, just poke one probe into each terminal of the plug with the meter set to OHM'S/continuity,

make a note of the reading from each sensor and post it on here

It's nearly always the front OS sensor that fails, no idea why, I'd expect the Ns to fail more so, but every ABS failed car I've evere looked at, it's been the OSF.
