With regard to the ratio changes, during my visit to Kieran's last week, his Dad mentioned that they onced dropped a 19NA engine into a TD car (using the TD box), but that it wasn't very good due to the engine struggling to push the TD gearing. when you add the extra work of turning a prop and rear axle assembly, I don't think I'd even attempt it with your set up.

Not sure about the BE3 boxes, but I have discovered that the BE1 boxes in the earlier cars did differ depending on whether they were in estates or hatches. The chart I've seen shows all the early 16, 19 petrol and 19 diesel estates being fitted with the same gearbox, while the hatches differed from model to model. The nearest hatchback box to the one in the estates is the 19d box, which had similar gear ratios but a slightly higher final drive.
