Well I'm really pleased to report engine is purring like a veritable kitten after new dizzy cap, plugs, everything cleaned, although not yet the quietest. And pulls well through box which works as it should. Love the torque from the 19, new to me. Not cleaned jets as running ok.
Coolant flush and oil change next.

The engine taps under acceleration though..
A little vid of the test drive:

Looking around on youtube I wonder if a good oil flush cleaning agent and an additive with the fresh oil might help.
I'd be interested in people's opinions on the noise

Thanks! Will do a proper progress with pics in the gallery soon.

Well done Max that was driving lovely. I couldn't really hear the ticking but noticed the wobbly speedo needle! It's not that ticking is it? The power seemed to be fine and the box seemed to change up and down nicely. Looks like you nailed the poor running.

it's at the beginning of that clip mostly. Sounds like its coming from around cylinder 4, drivers side of the engine. Not at idle, or revving when stationary, just under load when moving. I think it must be something from the top end, valve related or something.

I should definitely do an oil and filter change and see if that makes a difference. Have you got mayonnaise in your oil filler? I had on the Tgs. Have cleaned it out as well as poss, also the wire filter in the filler cap. I gave it a good dosing with carb cleaner which broke it all down.

Yes lots of Mayo! Wire thing soaking in turps, will try carb cleaner. And further clean filler hose before an oil change. Eager to get into it especially coolant flush I can't bear the thought of it corroding away in there. But will probably be thu evening earliest

Max if you can, remove the radiatory completely and back flush, also ensure you bleed it properly.

Well done so far!

Decided to change the accumulator before flushing coolant/oil as tick time was faster than once a second. So got a good one on there and.. No change :( so will investigate return flow rates, I gather doesur valve can be to blame. Reseating ball bearing in regulator too might work?

Is replacing the doseur a pain?

This is one setback I wasn't expecting!

I feel like transplanting the whole engine and box to the 16tzs which is great hydraulically.

But that would be crazy

Back suspension solid too, have yet to find out whether it is flat spheres or the arm bearings
