It's the colour Kitch, I love red cars, but those wheels just don't work with it.

On a black P2 it would look rather different

Well they might look good on the 1.6.... I think I saw it hiding in the background...

Might actually have been more in keeping if the wheel paint had been matching red. All the main trim pieces like along door sides are body colour with only the window surround and door handles, along with bumper trim in black. One or two more black trim pieces and it would have slotted in visually. However the car is closer to the all one colour (including the badges) type of cocept so matching the red door outer trims would look far more along that idea.

That's also why they will work pretty well on a black 16v, possibly a Platinum grey, but even there I suspect a matching grey (very subtle) would be more successful.

That's the trouble with being a professional designer...

Only because I really like them and how they came out, I just have no use for them. I know deep down that on my car, the originals look better. It would probably be a bit extreme to hunt down a ph1 in black just to bolt the wheels to

I think red would have been overkill, plus if I didn't like them then it's a pretty narrow market you can sell them to! I just think it needs the darker wheels in there to break it all up. No matter, hopefully someone else will benefit.

Anyone want to photoshop them on to a black 16v?

To be fair I've got a feeling they'd work on any other red BX, as they've all got more black trim to break the colour up. Mine's just loads of red, and then some shiney wheels with black bits. Even a red ph1 would probably suit them, I'm just not convinced a ph2 would but I'd love to see a PS if someone can do it.

I think they key might be having a pre-facelift mk2, or a mk1. Something a tiny bit older without the tinted rear lamps. A ph1 16v or GTi uses silver Speedlines anyway, so they wouldn't look as out of place on one. They'd almost look standard, just better.

Not enough red 16vs' about then! Although red is not the hardest colour to get black and white (silver) to sit on, your right about the later exterior trim making it harder to get the effect to work. Clear rear lights (not green tint) etc etc help enhance the white/black divide. Although I like the red, my personal favourite is the Platinum grey, but that is I realise my aesthetic choice, and hell buying a second hand BX now any colour is a good colour!

Anyway a link to a car (or two) which could probably make'em work....

Good on you for trying it out, there's always someone on the south coast a little bit east of you with a black valver...
