Well Kitch you could always try and transplant the 494 hp new Pug engine (308 GTi) into a C4....should speed it up!

I love my BX like everyone else on here I expect and use it nearly everyday except for general running around for which I use a Skoda Roomster which is basically a box on wheels. It's a bit quirky to look at and the 3 cylinder TDI gives a good soundtrack but ultimately it's the ride and sumptuous seating that I love about the BX. The Skoda picks up speed quicker at low revs (more torque) but the BX does at higher speeds (more BHP, lighter weight and more aerodynamic). For long journeys it's the BX everytime. It's probably the best long distance car I've had although it gets noisier above 70 or so. The economy of both cars is about the same. The seats are so good in the BX, it being a TZD turbo, that I have fitted a set in my Dyane and what a difference that has made. If circumstances meant I could only have one car I think it would be a Cactus on small wheels although I've never been in one. If it also had to be cheap then I think an older C5 estate or Rover 75 Tourer.

My AX gives my TVR a run for its money, but then my TVR is very slow!

My 16v is a daily driver and long may it continue. Well, more like weekly actually, since I commute on a bicycle. But it's my only car.

I've had a DS3 and although a decent enough car - albeit with a very firm ride - it's Citroën lite. If you want a modern day BX, I'd wait a few years and pick up a cheap C4 Cactus.

Ive just sold my Saab it was the 200 Bhp aero hot , I thought it was areally nice car to drive lots of power , fuel economy low 30s option of automatic or semi automatic . I ran out of drive space and didn't drive it enough to justify the tax and insurance on it ive not got a choice of 2 daily drives the 1993 TZD or the 1985 defender 90 it depends what mood im in I find both of them much easier to drive than silly modern cars with warning this and bleep that and auto everything but not quite when you want it.And the visibility out of both is far superior to the modern Encap window opening restricted high bonnet junk. and also the torque equals emissions rubbish so avoid torque, whats wrong with turbo lag it makes me smile .

My Cars: no longer any BXs but do have a Xantia

Look, I have to say that the BX is special, just a fun car in every way, Trouble is in Australia they didn't sell the diesel version. So with petrol prices being what they have been I decided that the petrol BXs needed to go and with no obvious diesel replacement at a reasonable price the Peugeot 405 SRDT was the only choice available "down" here. And two 405 SRDTs have been good economical transport, but not fun. So I have given in and bought at 1997 Xantia Turbo D with 2005K on the dial from Newcastle, NSW. Oh it seems high kilometres maybe but the car has been very well cared for and maintained by its first owner, the second owner of six months maybe not so as careful, but it is still intact!
Not a BX, no, but a car that Citroen felt could succeed the BX..........

Just thought I'd jump in quickly about an alternative car.

Love the BX! I don't think there really is a good modern alternative especially one that id be interested in anyhow. I've driven them daily for donkeys, I do about 1500 miles a week in my TZD and until about a month ago my 'spare' car was a 89 TU engined BX Leader haha

I wouldn't have it any other way... Keep on truckin!

Up until just under 2 years ago, i was driving my TXD daily until i scrapped it :( Terminal rust, so it wasn't worth doing along with a suspected head gasket which turned out not to be, now my C5 is my daily. I must admit, i'm not sure i'd go back to driving a BX daily, i'll have to get my tzd tURBO back on the road & then we'll see if the BX still remains as a daily or just an occasional nice weather drive. The valver is going to get driven on nice weather days & not during winter.

I like the first C4s - the shape of the 4-doors reminds me of the GS. I had a C4 Coupe for a while and it was fine, apart from the EGS gearbox, but I was doing lots of stop-start traffic work at the time so an auto was essential.
