/\ I think the guy needs a reality check, no one will pay that for a shed with a dead engine. You could get a reasonable runner with a ticket for a monkey.

yeah..i made him an offer at 150. but i am willing to go up to 250.. its still gonna cost me a fortune to get it collected to Derby though.

i had a thought come across me, if by some mirical the engine turned out ok no bent valves and just needed a cam shaft i could stick an XUD from a pug 306 and run the hydrolics electronically (like some cars where they have an electric motor running the hydrulic PAS.)

it was just a thought.. looking at "cheap fixes" but ahh i dont thing its going to happen anyway. the seller has not contacted me back since i made him my offer.. and i dont think he will. oh well you can but ask..

IIRC Pug camshafts have been used previously with them being drilled and tapped to carry the pulley?

heres the photos. would have been nice. the chap owns a business in sales so i guess he would never barter. he did say that "£500 seems fair" but i'd think he would only get that if he broke it.

Perhaps if you politely advise him that the current market value with a decent engine is only £500 - £1000 and that with a knackered engine / no mot it is only realistically £150-£250 he may reconsider. Sales men do barter, that is their nature.

I certainly wouldn't write it off just yet as if the body work is as clean as it looks then you have the potential for a very nice car. Most estates need lots of expensive body work doing and despite there being several estates turn up for sale recently they are generally very rare now and you may not ever find one as tidy as that bodywork wise (assuming the nearside is as clean).

i have gave him my offer of £250.. sadly i have had no reply now for over 24 hours. he also wants the car to sit there as a bit of a revenge thing for his neighbours as they always nicked his space.

ill just wait till another turns up. i am nothing but time and i still have my 2 Fiat Panda 4x4s that need work doing to them.

You are right, one of the original 1.9TD conversions was done in this way.

Two other points spring to mind - firstly 205s with PAS have a pulley on the end to drive the gearbox mounted power steering pump, as do early 405s later ones had the pump mounted directly to the head and driven off a slot in the end of the cam). Whether this pulley would be in line with the BX pump I don't know however.

Secondly, I've heard of a couple of people who've just replaced the camshaft after belt failure - the valves are in line with the pistons so no sideways forces to bend them I'm reasoning. Not much use if he doesn't come back with a reply, but I'd rather sort an engine out over a weekend rather than spend weeks doing welding/bodywork (assuming it is a good shell)...

well i offered him a little more AND a working car with MOT to replace it with that we would bring down on the low loader if we made a deal.. sadly no reply. i guess he just does not want to sell it now.

the future does not look too good for that BX.

anyone know of any more that may be about? i am able to collect it from pretty much anywhere in the UK.

Try ringing him if your serious, not everyone likes to deal via email, get a definitive answer not speculation.

You didnt offer the guy a Fiat Panda did you? Sound s to me like he aint gonna budge on the £500 sheets. As 110 says get on the blower and make him a reasonable final offer then if refused turn your back on it.

From the pictures this car looks in quite remarkable rust free condition and if that mileage is correct it could well be a gem in disguise and may well be worth paying £500 for. How much would you expect to pay for a very nice, low mileage rust free example of a BX estate.
As Mat said; I also would much prefer to repair the engine on a rust free example than have to do loads of body work on a rusted car with a good engine?

i am happy to say that we have managed to agree on a price. sadly i will have to wait till Tuesday till my boss is back in work to ask him for the details on the vehicle transport.

i am quite looking forward to this, it will be the biggest car i would have had that is in my name. being use to nothing bigger than the old fiat pandas and before them a fiat cinquecento.

looking forward to having a car that does not look to need much of a restoration. as pretty much every car i have had has needed extensive reconstruction work!

the hardest part is that i am going to have to sell one of my pandas... super sad face :(

which one though?

well i am happy to say that i am collecting the BX in the early hours on monday. the total cost of this is considerable. £400 for the car, and about £300 for the transport and the london emission/congestion/theft tax which is an extra £100 on top (for just about an hour of being in it! b******s! as if they dont take enough already!).

anyway im looking at about £800 to £900 which is a bit more than i actually have but ill find it somewhere. sadly this leaves me with nothing to buy replacement parts with so its going to be another few months before i can do anything with it :( maybe longer!

thankfully i have been given free storage curtsy of where i work. indoors to! and on my days off i can go in and work on the car in the dry.

the seller told me that when the engine stopped, he tried to restart it, and the engine still turned over. if valve strike happened, the engine would have locked surely? heh well heres to hope.
