Finally able to use the BX after nearly 2 weeks of immobility. Diesel without queues seems to have reached my part of the South coast, for at least the time being. Now for MOT stuff...
Occasionally constrained by geography. When not driving, can rely on ferry, two wheels and musclepower when a couple of miles as the crow flies would become a round-road-trip ten times the distance.

I drove home yesterday and broke the passenger mirror mechanism so I'll fit the spare I have. I also changed the fuel filter and the emulsion tube in the carburettor.

I've still just been driving it! Probably going to SORN it at the end of the month though, to avoid the salt. Rain I don't mind, stonechips and wear & tear I can deal with, but I hate rust!

A thorough waxing (cavities and underside) prevents rust. It really does. Even in the UK!
I got the message back in the 80's, and nothing has rusted since. Not one jot.

To make the job really easy, if you have access to a compressor, a Sealey SG18 is great to use, and does a thorough job.
Will work with any of the liquid cavity waxes.

Oh I'm sure it does, I could cake it in Dinitrol but in the interests of preserving it I'll just stow it and use the C6 for the winter.

A very silly thing, yesterday.
Managed to scrape the rear r.h. door against our metal driveway gate, when leaving in a hurry and having to negotiate a delivery truck trying to park outside.
Green paint wiped off with petrol and Mer. Am hoping the large dimple might push out.
The rubbing strip took the brunt.

Sorted a slightly annoying hydraulic leak.

Ever since getting the car (a year ago now) there has been the odd green drip hanging from the pressure regulator. So slow, didn't do anything about it, except check all the unions and return hose for tightness.

Last weekend, we went out to lunch with some neighbour friends, and gave them their first ride in the BX; suitably impressed. Leaving their property involved putting the suspension on Int.High for less than a minute, to get over some drainage humps in the narrow road. When taking a full-lock corner, was surprised to get Brake-STOP dash lights flickering on briefly, which promptly disappeared.

Low fluid level, as I found out next day when observing a rapid drip (one every 3-4 secs) from the steering output union on the regulator underside, whenever the engine was running. The union was not at all tight, and its rubber sleeve (not a genuine green-striped one) was in bad shape. The 6.35mm steel pipe was also slightly curved where it went through the union, and might not have been engaging properly with the centre drilling.

Anyhow, pipe strightened, a new seal improvised from a short length of rubber tubing, and the union refitted - going in much further than before, which is a good sign.

Have got a decent stock of 3.5mm union seals, but no 4.5 or 6.35mm ones. Should be some here (from Citroen) tomorrow, so will re-do the joint with the pukka bit. Over a litre of LHM needed to be thrown in to get the level right again, but everything now dry at the front end. Someone had been there before...

Another small win. Fed up with the front wiper missing a large part in the middle of the windscreen, I set about rectifying this. This involved bending the wiper blade and lubricating the pivots. It’s nice to be able to see properly. Over the next few weekends, I need to adjust the tails gate catch, work out why the heat controls are not opening the correct flaps, and replace the dash board lamps. Not looking forward to that job.

Fixed the wobbly RH headlight. The slotted plastic retainer had somehow partially snapped of so I found a replacement in a spare headlight and snapped that in to secure it firmly in place.
And I booked it in to have the rust in the top corners of the windscreen sorted out in a couple of months time.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.
