The bearing extractor kit arrived this morning. Two days too late but I guess it will come in useful at some point. The lack of the kit, and a seed of an idea from Jaba, made me think a bit and achieved the required result with what I had to hand
My Cars: 2003- Passe-Partout 1.9 TGD estate 2005 Grolliffe Tizzydee turbo estate and sundry other BXs and Grace, a CX TRD. 2008 to 2023 - all sorts of stuff, some interesting 2024. TxD 1.9D estate. 'Wheelybin'. Much worse than expected. Scrapped. 2025 Grogan. 1.9 TD Evasion Image Break. LHD.
Over the last two weeks, camshaft oil seals, cam cover gasket and breather pipe. New water pump, timing belt and tensioners, engine mountings apart from lower one to do, discs and pads all round and a brake bleed, a rear arm bearing, fuse box mods, front struts rebuilt and timing belt plunger mod. New driveshaft and seal LHS. Engine and gearbox oil change. Today, if the bits arrive, I have a steering ram to change, the lower engine mount and drop links. Next week, I shall be rebuilding the FDV and that ought to be it for a while, at least mechanically. Was it worth it? Definitely. Taking a basically sound thirty three year old car and refreshing all the bits that have worn out makes it a great deal better to drive.
You have been busy. I took me three days to do a wheel bearing so I'm impressed. It was my first attempt so hopefully I'll be better prepared in the future.
