Ooh- if it has AF and/or RDS then I'd be interested. If you used it, did you get interference from the engine, wash and wiper motors? I may still fit a suppressor in case a new headunit doesn't fix this. The manual tuning is a ballache to constantly do so I'll be happy with just a radio that keeps on the ball with frequency shifting.

That's very promising. As it happens, I'm looking at aircon myself!

if you want to borrow it to see if the engine / speaker noise goes away - let me know.

That sounds like a plan- while it won't help with drifting frequencies it'll help show if I need to fit a suppressor somewhere.

I'm not back home in Kent until 2nd July, so if you could hang onto it, that would be grand.

Funnily enough, that's where my college is. I haven't got the means to do lots of driving here, though, so it'd probably more useful I pick it up once I'm back home again.
I'll start scouring eBay for some more modern and sophisticated stereos. I really like the styling and feel of Blaupunkt kit, but something like a Clarion would suffice so long as it has autoscan mod cons and RDS.

Not sure of your budget, but don't spend too much on a secondhand one.
A new Sony CDX-G1302U can be had for £79 or less - all the usual radio facilities, including CD, Aux in and USB.

I had the first Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB radio in my BX. It fitted in nicely although operation was a bit clunky compared to modern ones. I would recommend this model although it may be worth checking if the older DABs still work as I think the UK has or is switching to DAB+ which old stuff doesn’t receive.

Budget is £40 max. I really dislike the look of modern radios in old cars, especially as they look like they've been stuck in the late 2000s and haven't changed since. They just look out of place with the rest of the vehicle.
All I really want is an FM radio/cassette unit with RDS/AF and I really like the Blaupunkt kit from the mid 90s. My Nissan Micra has a Blaupunkt and its fantastic at being An Radio

I also had a Pure Highway H260DBI which I see can be had cheaply second hand on eBay. This is unpopular now as they forgot to make it compatible with steering wheel controls— not a problem in the BX! It depends if you value DAB or not— some of it sounds crap as it is basically mono at the cheap end; conversely the the good stations are very good. I can’t live without BBC 6music as commercial radio does my head in!

You are right though, if looking for FM only then vintage Blaupunkt looks ace!

I've got another Blaupunkt at the unit which is a modern CD thing. It stinks of dust and cigarettes and is stained yellow which would fit in with the BX rather well! I'll carry on loosely perusing eBay for headunits I may like.

I've got to be careful with budgeting this month, because I want to buy a MIG welder at some point to hone in my bodywork skills.

That is what's currently installed in the car!
